Subject: Tire Sizes? IP: Logged
Message: I have 15x7s on my Dakota and I want to get some low profile tires. Anybody know what the widest tire I can fit on a 15x7 is?

Message: I planned on getting something with a low profile to it. I can't go too low though cause I do have to go off road a little when I go motocrossing. I have 75s right now and I was thinking maybe a 60 series side wall.

Message: For 50 series and up, the nominal wheel is 70% of the section width. For 45 and lower, it's 85% of the section width.
So a 255/70R16 which has a section width of 255mm (or 10 inches), fits a nominal wheel of 16x7. A 255/40R16 has a nominal wheel of 16x8.5.
Turning that around, a 7" wheel suggests a 255 tire at 50 series or higher, or approimately a 210 tire at 45 or lower.
255/50R15 tires are about 25 inches tall, 10" wide
210/45R15 tires are about 21.6" by 8.2"

Message: when i roll on stocks, i use a 205/60R15 fits good on the 7" rim. traction is verry limited though, im going to put a 215/60R15...maaaaby a 225/60R15. any wider would be too wide.

Message: You can always get the Dakota 15 X 8 double spokes. I have those and run 255/65R15 and can probably go bigger without problems, well, at least taller.

Message: flamin V8, is your truck lowered, and how much? Mine has a 4/6 drop and with the 205/60R15's there is still room for a larger tire. With the 60 series it scrapes over EVERYTHING. Sometimes it throws sparks on the freeway (the frame is only about 2 1/2 - 3" off the ground) you might want to go with a 215/65R15.

Message: I just put new rubber on my 2000 Dakota, which had 215/75R15 on 15x7. I was told the biggest I could go was 255/60R/15. They look great and handle much better than the tires that were orginally on my truck.

Message: I have the same 15X7 rims. I have had 255/60/15s on there for about a year without any problems at all. The height is slightly lower than the factory 215/75s. Dry traction was dramatically improved.
