Hey blackdak01, waz up. I got a checkmate cover, and i love it. Great price for the product. Looks amazing, most people don't even know i have one until they are standin' next to it. Now thats pretty damn flush, if you ask me. Let me know if you have any more questions or if you want any pics. My truck's black too, so that may help you try to better picture one on your truck. I think the quality is great. It opens reall smooth. I think the only problem with a difficult open would be in the installation. You got to position the shocks in the right place for it to open easy. It's pretty lightwieght for a cover i think. It tells you to have like 3-4 guys help put it on. Me and my dad did it alone if about 1/2 hour. It's really sturdy, sometimes i stand on it (to wash the roof or something) and it doesn't even flex. You know they have a special feature for their covers, like a quick release mechanism, which would be great for constant on and off use. Any more questions let me know.

I have one that I had painted to match truck. It is impossible to get the surface smooth with the paint because of the texture of the gel coat. The instructions sucked for installation. It is a very low profile cover and looks very good. It is very easy to remove and replace. I recommend it for the cost and looks. kevin

I like my cover too, but it sucks about painting it, and for some reason, the weatherstripping or rubber seal around the edge keeps squishing in and makes the cover rub against the bed and mess up the paint. anyone else have this problem?

I'm selling mine, getting a cap. It already has a couple of coats of paint on top, and one underneath. Another coat or two would really smooth it out nicely. I don't know if it fits Gen III's, (I have a Gen II) but it is a good deal for somebody.

If I have it factory painted black will the paint still look good? I saw someone past that it was hard to paint... Did that mean over the factory color or what? Also I was wondering what was so hard about the install? Good to hear it is easy to take off ...

Sounds like a damn good cover for 500 bones... Anyone know the average price to ship one of these?

$500? And the fiberglass tends to be wavy, so proper prep work is very labor intensive if you want it smooth.

Is there anyway to get the checkmate cover factory painted. Cuz I just saw a high res pic of what it looks like coming out of the factory black It looks like sh*t. You can see the fibers in the cover. It would take a lot of paint. Has anyone had their checkmate painted? What did it cost alltogether, paint and labor.

damn! I'm working on a new sound system right now. I've got 2 decent 10", but i'm putting in a little bit better 10"s and 2 12"s. Not really moderate, but i'm waiting for more funds, aka x-mas + b-day = funds. I can't say that i've a drop kit planned real soon. I do however want to get some rims, like the ones you got. They look pretty good for the price. If i were to drop it though, i would also do a 2/3. Later

Phil, if you thought it looked like sh*t from the factory, u should see that cheap black coat after a year or so, it looks 10 times worse than sh*t; AND if you lean on it the fibers stick to you. But i've seen it painted, and you can still see the texture of the fiberglass, but it looks good anyway. But the places i went to wanted alot to paint it.

I spent hours sanding mine down before I painted it, it's still faintly wavy right now, but with a couple more coats of paint I think it would look really smooth. I've had it for three years and it still looks good. Cruznlo And it's for sale.

stepdogg, where do u live, maybe mine did cuz of all the Florida heat and sun. or maybe i cleaned it too much with harsh stuff.I know that the heat didn't help w/ the weatherstripping cuz it made it stick to the bed and come off the cover. but if you run your hand across the cover, do u get some fibers on your hand? everyone always bitches about that when they lean on mine. Anyway, i plan on painting mine soon so i won't have that problem much longer.

you might want to check out the Sprint tonneau cover. i saw a couple trucks at a show with them and they looked SWEET. the paint was flawlessly smooth on them. they may be kinda hard to find though. i've only seen one web site about them. http://www.calconcepts.com/SolidBedCovers/FlushMount/flushmount.html
the price is the same. i really wish they had more pics, cause those definately don't do them justice.

Maybe the heat, i'm in Ohio. I don't know about the washing it either. In the summer i washed it every other day, like a perscirption or something. So it can't be that. I've never had problems w/ the whether stripping sticking, just a problem w/ it sliding inward and then making contact with the rails. :( But never have i had any loose fibers come off. I've never heard of that, maybe you have a defective one or something cause even in Florida heat, it shouldn't just come off like that. You know? I would complain to the company about that one.
