Subject: Oh $hit handles for a '99 IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone put the Oh $hit handles off a 2000+ dak, on a '99. Will they mount properly? Because everytime I make quick right-hand turns my passengers end up on my side.

I've added the passenger side grab handle on my '99 and it wasn't too hard to do. I used the handle/cover off a '99 4x4.
If you go to the parts counter you'll need to get a new A-pillar cover, handle and mounting bolts. It does not come as a kit so be sure to order all three things. You can not order the plastic hole covers so look for them in a junkyard.
As for mounting the handle to the A-pillar it gets a little tricky as there aren't any proper size mounting holes in the A-pillar metal. Go to the local hardware store (with a mounting bolt in hand) and get a couple brass wood inserts. These are threaded both on the outside and inside. I forget the outer diameter of the insert, but it's in the neighborhood of 3/8" or 1/2". Also grab some Liquid Steel while you're at the store.
Once you have everything you need, remove the stcok A-pillar cover. You'll notice a couple long slots in the metal where you'll be mounting the bolts/inserts. What I did was I threaded the bolts into the inserts a little (through the new cover and handle, held everything in approximate position and marked where the inserts needed to be. Then I took just the inserts and threaded them into the metal. I used a little plastic steel to hold them in place (they screw in tightly, but I didn't want them to keep turning when I screwed the bolts in). When the plastic steel had a chance to set up a little I reinstalled everything.
The handle is secure enough that I can pull on it with most of my weight and it doesn't move.
