Subject: Cleaning up a bit. IP: Logged
Message: What do you guys generally use to clean up your engine bay? Ive heard that Armor-all does some serious damage to your plastic over time, but it seems to look really good IMO. When i was installing my Air filter today, i noticed how filthy the engine bay was. Time to do a little cleaning i think. Thanks for the help.

Message: I used that tire foam/degreaser, worked really
well, but after about a weak, all the dust and
sh!t started collecting on it.
brake parts cleaner works very well, but
doesnt shine like the tire foam, it evaporates
very fast, but is great for removing oil, etc.

Message: My 89 mazda had an engine bay you coould
eat off. How did i get it that way?
1 Pressure washer
2 simple green, castrol super clean
3 toothbrucsh, scrapers etc
4 armor all or whatever, its just an engine bay.
This is how i keep the dakota clean as new.
Just be careful where you shoot that thing or
you can screw up electronics. Use
compressed air to dry it before you drive.

Message: i read a post on one of the other forums, dont remember which one, where wd40 was used to clean the engine. the person said when he was done the engine was clean and no damage was done to the aluminum parts. never tried that but sounds like a plan. just bag up all electronics before washing.

Message: There is some stuff called CD-2(think thats the name) It comes two spray cans to a pack one degreaser and one detailer. This stuff is great should be able to get at pep boys or autozone or an autoparts store. The detailer is the best, you spray it on and then let your engine run and it kinda cures the detailer so its not greasy. It will make the engine bay look good as new.
