Subject: 3" body lift, help??
IP: Logged

Message:
i want a 3" body lift but i first want to know how hard this is to install. How long does it take to do and do i need to buy any thing else other than the 3" body lift. Which one do you guys reccomend. Do i have raise the bumper then or any thing else so there isnt gaps, this is just what i heard. i really really want to do this. OH yeah, how do your trucks handle with the 3" lift, do you have to slow down more for corners, do you ever feel like your gonna roll?

It depends if you have a two wheel or a four wheel drive. If you have a 4x4 you will have to add the transfer case linkage extension, but with a 2 whell drive you wont. You also have to put on the steering extension that is included, but thats easy. It took me two days, but we didnt start till like Four on a Sat. afternoon. It can be fairly simple if you have some mechanical knowledge. The hardest part, was doing the 4x4 extension, and cutting the fan shroud, but we didnt even remove mine. As for the bumpers, if you buy a Performance Accessories kit, they include the brakets, to move them up. I would buy the Performance Accessories, I havent had any trouble with it in thirty thousand miles.

As for handling, my truck felt almost the same as stock, but thats because I didnt mess with the suspension any. I have never even felt like I was goig to roll the truck.

Hope this helps some.

you absolutely have to cut the shroud, it won't work if you don't. the extensions are only necessary if you don't have an auto trans and transfer. the bumpers were the hardest part for me because they were drilled improperly, i actually had to remachine them. other than that it was pretty straight forward, i didn't even use the radiator hose extension.

Yes. No rubbing if you use the factory 15x7 rims. Minor rubbing with factory 15x8 rims at full lock when turning.

Go with the PA Body Lift (not hard to install... just time consuming - about 6 hrs.) - Rides the same... I went with 33x12.5 ProComp Xterrains on 15x10 eagle alloys (had to cut the fender wells a little because of minor rubbing)

I have a 97 Dakota Sport 4 x 4 that I want to put 31's on. I have the tires mounted on 15 x 10 rims and am having problems with the tires rubbing in the front of the fender well. If I crank up the torsion bars will that give me enough room or will I need to put in a lift? Open to any other suggestions to solve the problem.

Why such a wide rim? You also didn't say what the backspcing of the wheel is. This in itself can have an impact on what and where things rub. These front ends do not hold up well to wide tires. I have been running 15 x 8 wheels and 33x10.5 tires for years and they tend to wear ball joints, tie rod ends, Idler arms, pitman arms, etc. I wouldn't even consider going to a 12" wide tire on mine. Besides, the true mid-size doesn't need a 12" tire...unless you are trying to float!

Why don't you raise it 10" off the ground? You could put dump truck tires on it.
