Subject: Lift kit for an 1987 Dakota? IP: Logged
Message: Does anybody make a lift kit for a 1987 Dodge Dakota 4X4?? I'm looking for a suspension lift. It has 3" on it already, and it is suspension, looks like blocks and turning up the torsion bars.
I want to get at least a 31x10.5" tire under it.
If you know of who makes one, do you have an approximate price it would cost? I'm thinking I need about a 4.5 or so lift.
Thanks!

Message: If its a 4x4 you should be able to put 31's already. especially if it has a little extra lift in the front.

Message: I have a 1989 4x4, and I am running 31x10.5" A/T BFGoodrich tires. I have a 2" body lift, and 1.5" torsion bars cranked. Even with those two items installed, there was still a small amount of hammer pounding in the front wheel wells to make the tires fit. They rubbed badly when turning, so the hammer had to bend in a little on the corners.
I know for sure that I could NOT have fit those tires without the body lift. The torsion bar lift helped out a lot too.
When I first got started doing my truck, I measured the bottom of my front differential, and my tires were stock sized and going bald. Anyways, it measured only 6" off the pavement. After completing this lift, I was almost 11" high. Actually it measured about 10 3/4". So 4-5" of extra ground clearance is pretty good, considering how cheap a body lift is and a torsion bar lift! I'm perfectly happy with my clearance now. No "suspension lift" available for our early model Dakota's anyway!
