Subject: Lift Opionion Needed IP: Logged
Message: I have a 1999 Club Cab V6 Sport. I am considering a 3" Performance Accesories body lift along with a 3" Fab Tech suspension lift. For wheels/tires, I am thinking about using the stock 16x8's with 305x70x16 GoodYear MT/R's. Would this look good? Is there enough clearance for those tires or would others be recommended?
Here is my truck from a year ago:

I have added a Stockland Tonneau since then. I'm tired of the low look...time for a lift!

Message: aaron hey man it's josh. don't know if u remember me or not, but my buddy in hope mills is going to to do a solid axle swap on my dakota (1998 club cab 2wd) and to another buddy of mine dakota (which is a 1991 club cab 2wd) for around $500-$1000 for labor if we get all the parts ahead of time (axles, brackets, springs, streering linkage, etc.). we're going to use chevy leaf springs that way we can run from 31" to 40" tires. later down the road we both are going to fully convert them to 4wd. but even if don't fully convert it we'll have some of the tallest 2wd dakotas around. maybe later on he'll come up with a do-it-yourself kit, but until then he'll do it at his place. oh yeah i almost forgot, his stuff holds up! he works on alot of the jeeps in the triangle area and there hasn't been any probs with his work. if you want more info just email me.

Message: NO NO NO TJs did not do the lift! There`s a place called Central Florida Off-Road in Rockledge that did it.One of the guys there use to work at TJs shop. I have seen a few of the trucks they`ve built and all I can say is AWESOME! I spoke to them about doing my previous 99 Dak. and was going to go through with it until I realized I was going to need more room in my truck for my kids soon. They really do grow like weeds you know!
Anyway , I`m in "The Bay" area...Palm Bay , and heard about this truck and tracked him down about a year and a half ago. He works out at Sea Ray boats in the day and at Diamodback Airboats in the eves.I met him(and his truck) and talked about all the things he had done and took a bunch of pics. This is what I know of it...
It`s got coil-over shocks on the front with a custom built 4-link set-up
The front axle is a dana 44 reverse rotation model
The rear is a Ford 9in. with a disc brake conversion
The rear spring hangers were modified to allow use of Chevy rear leafsprings (6in lifted ones I think)its taller than that though due to changing the pearches
He had 39 1/2 in swampers but now has 39 in Boggers on 15x12 Mickey Classic 2 rims
There are a lot more little thing done to it that I can`t remember but I can say they did an excellent job on it. Everything is spotless , you can`t even tell it had the IFS on it. The frame is all smoothed out and painted and all susp. pieces are powdercoated red.
Sorry for such a long post , if you look up the # for CFOR , I`m sure they can tell you more , or how to get ahold of him.

Message: He lives near the Rockledge Police Dept. off Barton. I just wanted to catch him out and about and ask him about it instead of buggin him at home. Thats a lot of work he has done to the truck and it is a sweet looking truck at that.
I carry my digicam in my truck all the time now so next time I see him, I'll get some good pics of the truck and the undercarraige and post them on the backside of my website so you all can see them.
We have a couple of full size Rams running around the area also but then again THEY MAKE DECENT SUSPENSION KITS FOR THEM but not Dakotas....hint hint to those companies that hopefully read here also.

Message: He is good friends with the guys there so I know they gave him a break.I don`t know what he actually paid though. When I spoke to them , the approx. price they gave me was around 5 grand. I already have a dana 44 , new 4.56 gears for it , all new bearing seals gaskets and rotors and I also had the axle sandblasted and I cut off all the unnecessary brackets and painted it.So I already have over 1 grand out of pocket not counting my time.
If it sounds like a lot , you have to consider all of the little things that you wouldn`t even think of , and they all add up fast. I believe the labor itself was 3 grand , which I thought was more than fare. This was to do the entire front end and re-fab the rear with the same rear end...not going to the 9in ford or disc brakes in the rear like the big red one.
If I were to guess I`d say an easy 10 grand to do what he did. I know there are plenty of people that think they can do it alot cheaper , but if you want it done with good parts and don`t have the means to do it yourself , you can`t cheap out.
Just think , if you bought a used 97-99 Dak for around 10-12 Gs you could have a BAD one-of-a-kind ride for around 25 grand. Go look at prices on new trucks and it looks even better!

Message: i dont know if you guys are still checkin this post, but forget the dana 44 and ford 9". Both are great axles and if you are gonna keep small tires on it than fine. BUT, if you wanna run tires like i do (38.5) than i'd suggest goin with dual dana 60's (preferably high clearance if you do the off-roading i do.
