Subject: Torsion bar help IP: Logged
Message: I have searched archives but can't find an answer to my question. Where exactly do you crank the bars? Do you crank the bolt near the middle of the truck or up front under the suspension. I am not a mechanic but I am learning. I really enjoy working on my truck myself. I have learned so much from this forum. The best part is you can't beat the price!! The info is free!! So with that in mind let the jokes roll about my lack of knowledge. I can take it. I know I will get help from the regulars on this forum. I want to thank all the regulars (you guys know who you are) who reply to my questions no matter how dumb they may be. Thanks much!!!!! To be honest when I searched the archives I got 1176 matches on torsion bars. I looked through the first few pages and decided just to ask. So the answer may actually be there somewhere but I didn't want to spend 2 days looking at all the old posts ;) Thanks again!!

Message: Just did mine on Sunday. Follow the bars back from the suspension to where they stop (about even with the front seats). From the end of the torsion bar towards the middle of the truck there is a 6" metal bracket. At the end of that bracket there is a 28MM (I think on the size) bolt head facing the ground. While lying on your back, looking up, turn the bolts clockwise to go up. I cranked mine 2-1/4 turns (3/4 turn cranks at a time and measure) to get about 3/4" increase in height. I have 2000 cc 4X4 and it is now within 1/2" of being level. It's enough for my 16" wheels and 275/70R16 tires in August. PS it's a lot easier to crank them if you jack the front end up off the ground using the main front cross member.

Message: if you crank the torsion bars up an extream way you might want to have your alignment checked. dont want to eat up your tires.
