Message: I read in 4wheel mag that when they tested the 05 Dak 4x4 the transfer case exploded and they showed a pic of it.that kinda put me off from then on,as far as looks go....too generic looking for me looks like a nissan, but thats just me,most people that see my truck probably wouldnt be caught dead in it.Different strokes for different blokes

Message: It wasn't the transfer case, it was the front diff. Every Dakota made has had a weak front diff. Push them too hard and the aluminum housing will split open.

Message: 8banger 4wd locks the transfer case not the differentials.
I wouldn't advise doing 60 in 4lo either. Wasn't built for that.

Message: Yeah yer right it was the front diff but on the other hand i dont think the test drive they did pushed the truck very hard at all i thought it was a pretty lax test.my first thought after reading the article was that dodge got caught cutting corners and put out a cheap truck, its not that often a brand new truck sustains that much damage on an easy test drive, dont get me wrong i dont care if its good or not,im just surprised it cracked.and mines 11 yrs old and been thru hell and back.
