Subject: does front driveshaft spin all the time? IP: Logged
Message: Just wondering if the front driveshaft spins all of the time? I have no front driveshaft right know and someone that was driving beside me at 60mph said the nub that comes out of the front rear was spinning at about 60mph. Should this be happinging or does it stop once I put a driveshaft back in? The reason I am asking this is because I can get a front driveshaft the is good up to 15mph but if it spins all off the time when in 2wd, while im on the highway it would be to much stress. Thnaks

Message: If you have a Dodge vehicle that is 4x4, and it doesn't have free-wheel front hubs, there are two possibilities that I'm aware of.
1. Vacuum-powered disconnect on front driveshaft that disconnects left side from right side. Everything still turns.
2. Disconnect is made only in the transfer case, which means everything's turning all the time.
I have tried, but I can't find anyone who makes a free-wheel (manual locking hubs) conversion for the Dakota.
