Subject: Tires for pa 3" bod ?? IP: Logged
Message: I've spent three hours searcing and doing the archive thing. 99 4x4 ext. 5.2 auto with factory fender flares.
I am doing the 3" pa body lift. I currently have 31 10.5 15 when I called up for the lift they said with the 3.55 gears if I do any heavy 4x4ing they have had people with 33" tires tear out the front pinion gears due to the tires?
They suggest 32 11.5 15 could I fit 33 12.5 15 on stock wheels?
I don't mind triming plastic no way on metal or the body.
I haven't touched the torsion bars yet.
Please I need some pros cons 32 11.5 15 or 33 12.5 15? I just don't want to damage anything from putting the wrong size tires. I do some easy/moderate off roading.
Thank you from colorado

Message: the front axle if i remember right is only rated to about a 31" tire but there is people on here all the time running 33's and sometimes even 35s on the stock axle so unless your really going to be ramming around through the sticks and tearign up your truck then you shouldnt have problems with 33's

Message: Front axle is the weak link. 33's are the limit of what you'll want for offroading. 35's will tear it up with heavy offroading. If you tow anything or plan to offroad I'd look into some 3.92 or 4.10 gears to offset the 33's

Message: I'm planning on putting on the 33 tires very soon to. I have a 99 Dak 5.2L 4x4 with 3:55 gears with an automatic transmission currently running 32x11.5x15 tires.
At 70mph in overdrive I'm running just a tad over 1900 RPM. Could someone tell me what RPM levels I'd be running at with 3.92 gears and 4.10 gears with 33x12.5.15 tires. I tried those calculators and apparently I'm not smart enought to figure out how to use them. I'm concerned about gas milage but I do some towing so I need something better than the stock 3:55 which jump in and out of overdrive as it is with the 32 inch tires.
I think I'll also need one of those "true speed" things.
thanks

If its jumping in and out of OD you are f_cking up your tranny and Dodge trannys are crap to begin with. Never tow in OD. I turn mine off in town since I have 3.55's and 33's. I only turn it on when I'm on the highway (and not towing) believe me the $1 you save a tank won't make a differene when it comes to a $1200 tranny rebuild.

Message: I am also installing the 3" PA lift on a 2001 4.7L 3.55 quad. I would really like the BFG A/T 33,12.5 but would be happy with the 32,11.5. I don't want to tweak the torsion bars and I will be towing so I figure 32s will work best. Anyone disagree? Someone help me make up my mind! Will the 32s look tough or silly?

Message: acording to the guy at 4wheelparts.com they would look good I think I will be going with the 32 11.5 15 procomps and save for gears. They are on sale buy 3 get one free. All mounted and balanced with road hazard about 550.
Thank you for all you help and input.

Message: If you don't want to tweak your torsion bars any, you're probably better off with the 32x11.50s. They will look good with the lift, however, the 33s look better. Just my opinion though.

Message: Yeah, I am going with the 32s. Once the suspension lifts are more affordable I'll opt for lower gears and bigger tires. Thanks!
