Ya i was looking at some others and i saw a nice 98 i think, lifted 10 inches. He was running 35 or 38's, very nice looking.

This guy says he has a 7 inch tough country lift on a 97 4x4. I think he ment 5.5 unless he did something special. His Black truck looks nice though.

Ya. Lots of People can squeze that lift from 5.5 to 7 or so inches. I dont know how but people have done it. It looks sweet though.

I've heard that some stretch the 5.5 to 7 by adding the lift that they get from the torsion bars maxed out. Don't know if thats the case here though. A guy at work with a 98 calls his 7" because of the 1.5" he got from the torsions.

Try going off road with a Tuff Country 5.5" lift. What a joke. Might as well be a plow up front. I had a Tuff Country lift when they were first avaiable. Wish I would have seen the end product first. Funky. I had more clearance when it was stock.

Tuff country's not for everyone...If your planning to do some serious off-roading then you might as well go with the straight axle...If your just looking to show with occasional mud work, like me, then tuff country is perfect. I agree that straight axle does look better but the tuff country doesn't look bad at all in my opinion. BTW Duhcodaman, the only way to get more clearance is to get bigger tires...but I know what your talking about :)

Born - I have to respectfully disagree w/ you and everybody else who say's the only way to get more clearance is w/ larger tires. That completely ignores improvement to approach and departure angles, as well as breakover angles. I know what you mean, that tires are the only thing that lifts the axles, but axles aren't the only factor in ground clearance(frames, crossmembers, even bumpers can, and do, often make ground contact). In fact, their close proximity to the tires helps make up for how far they hang down. I think when most people think of clearance, they picture driving along a flat surface and along comes a big rock smack dead center in the trail. I really don't encounter this very often. You've got to remember that most of the time your tires will also be on top of the log, bump, rock, whatever, thereby raising your axles at the same time. It's other parts of your truck that need to clear it. I'm not an offroad expert by any means, but if you think a vehicle running 35's has only a two inch advantage over mine running 31's, you aren't really sitting down and thinking this through all the way. Just my $.02.

Thats exactly what I meant when I said "I know what you mean" at the end of my remark...tuff country especially has all the drop down brackets and torsion bars that can get hung up in approach and departure angle's...mostly during rock crawling activities...however, in the swamp its the tree stumps and cypress knees that can really wreck your day if the axle doesn't clear or you don't have pretty stout underbody armor...your bound to get snagged every once in a while regardless. Just letting you know we're on the same page ;).
