Subject: 3" Lift Question IP: Logged
Message: Alright, I've always drove 2wd cars with the exception of an 85 AMC Eagle wagon and just traded in a s10 extreme for a 2002 Dakota 4x4 cc I would like to get a 3" lift on it, my question is body lift vs suspension lift I know the general idea, but why does everyone (most people on this site) go with a body lift?

Message: Two reasons, Cost and Availability. A body lift costs between $70 and $200 and a suspension kit for a Dakota will be $1200+. Also there are only a few suspension kits available. For a ’91-’96 Dakota 4x4, there is only the Trailmaster 4” kit available. For ’97-’99 there area few, Rancho and Tuff Country to name a couple. ’87-’90 & 2k+ Dakotas have nothing available even though I was able to modify the ’91-’96 Trailmaster kit to my ‘88. There is talk of a 10” kit by a company called Whiplash for the late model Dakotas, however, not much information is available about the company or the quality of the kit. Plus, 10” is kind of extreme for the average owner. Most wouldn’t want to go more than a few inches.

Message: For functionality.. Body lift is good for clearing tires and getting the body off the ground. But for ground clearance and approach and departure angles Suspension lift is the way to go. Not to mention you get a little more Flex..
Right Walt Flex? .. sorry Had to. I know .. I know it's Felix but it's close right?

Message: Yep ... that's why most of 2000+ guys are running body lifts, cuz there's nothing else. I'd run a susp lift in a heartbeat over a body lift.
Althought I am liking the fact that the truck still rides great with the body lift. My F150 with 6" susp lift rode like a lumber wagon. ;o)

Message: I've come to the determination that 3" body & a 3" suspension lift is the way to go.. Neither are to big but together it gets you up there.. Just my preference though. *Still hoping for the body lift for x-mas*

Message: You could expect to pay anywhere from $300-$500 depending on the shop. If you are not gonna DIY, make sure it is done by a reputable shop that does suspension/body lifts regularly. Its worth the extra dough to have it done right with a warranty for any problems you may have(hopefully not)after the install without giving you a hard time.

Message: so how much of the frame shows under the cab for the Dak QC body lifts? I've seen some nice pics, but a lot of them are shaded, or the frame is hidden by nerf bars...I've got a 2k QC Sport 4.7

Message: It is a 3" PA body lift with 31x12.50x15R Super Swamper Boggers, on 15x10" 589's.
Had to do some minor trimming, and it rubs at full crank when suspension is compressed
I have more pictures on Offroadworld.net, which is the main site i'm at.
