I've read up on your posts and opinions and neede some answers from you. Since you speek intelligently and calmly (not like those others who flame you for asking simple questions), I seek your advice.

Question is. I got HO cams in one hand, and an HO intake in the other. Do i put in the cams only, or both? Keeping in mind that this is a daily driver, and gotta keep the miles/gallon as tollerable as possible.

Second, a thread talking bad about the cams caught my eye. Said the original springs woudln't hold up under the new cams. I bought the HO jeep springs too. Put those in aswell? better safe then sorry.

What do you think??

At KRC, where you can buy all these cams, they say stock sprongs are fine. The more aggresive cams (the regrinds) require the springs. Mainly because you are going to run this engine towards 7K RPM's. I assume the HO cams are nothing much more than what we called RV cams in old school engines. They give an all around more HP and Torque without really moving the power band up too much at all. Another thing is KRC also mentioned running their 206 cams on a test truck without even changing the springs for that cam, which they DO recommend. You shouldn't need them for the HO (200) cams.

I got the same cams on order and should have them this weekend. I also have the 2003 which allready has the HO intake and larger TB.

Maybe Kowalski will chime in and shed some more light.

GraphiteDak---just to clarify, although you have a 68mm tb, it still has a torque step (why dodge uses these i'll never know) which renders it more in the cfm's of a 65mm tb, i'm telling you get a fastman true 68mm tb for the cams (or maybe a 69 i'm still debating myself). I first installed the cams and felt a slight increase then installed the true 68mm tb and felt a huge increase, so much so they should only sell the cams with an upgraded tb.

I did the cams only because I wanted to keep the torque coming on early in the powerband, like 2500rpm. When you put on the HO intake your moving the powerband up slightly. With that being said all depends on where you want the most usable torque at, down low or up a little higher.

All good advice here ! I run a home ported 68mm from a '01 myself; the '00 came with a 65mm TB. The older HO manifold, which is what I'm guessing you have, will shift the power band up. I doubt that intake would have much effect on milage, I passed on it since I tow and plow and want my power down low. Depends on how you'll use your truck. I'm still confused wether the new style intake offers a gain or not, that style is now used on both versions of the 4.7. I didn't notice a milage drop with a switch to the HO cams, but I got the Leach flash that should increase power and efficiency from more spark advance at about the same time as I did the cams. Did any of you other guys see a milage drop with just the cams ? I wouldn't expect to, I think the difference is a little more duration on the exhaust. You should be fine with the stock springs, much easier that way too. Never dynoed it, but the flash seemed to be as big a gain as the cams, only available for the '00 4.7

No drop in mileage here! In fact I just checked my mileage three weekends ago on my way home from a 200 mile trip, 20.1MPG all interstate with cruise set on 73mph. For a V8 truck, I can live with that!

Hmm. Well maybe I'll see about porting my TB. I think I did read where the stock 68 MM had a section that should be opened up a bit. Sure would save me some $$$ vs. buying the fastman. I should have everything I need to do it as long as I can keep my patience long enough :-P

01 - they say we all get our 15 minutes of fame and I'm sure that's more than I deserve... For all doing the cam swap, I hope you've checked out the old posts to know what to watch out for - don't stress the pin on the cams, zip tie the chain to the gears, orient the cam the same as the old one, make sure you haven't bumped a rocker loose before replacing the valve covers...You should be glad you've done it when you're finished. Some say it takes time for the computer to relearn, but I saw immediate results.
