Message: I want to swap the HO cams, intake, injectors in my '01 4.7 I also plan on having the heads port & polished with a 5 angle valve job & decked to bring the compression up to the HO's 9.7, my question is will the HO pcm work in the dakota?

Message: Nice truck.
I'm no machinist by trade, but I didn't think doing headwork would get the that much added comp. as the HO engine has. Mainly because it has a different bottom end also, pistons, etc.
No one really talks much of using the HO PCM, I guess it might be a good idea. Many speak highly on the Mike leach, or kenne bell flash.
I like your tailpipes, around here, EVERYONE got a truck, with loud duals, that stick straight out the back! I think it looks, well.....
I always thought that out the back on a truck, kept the ex. gases swirling in the eddy behind the cab.

Message: HO PCM is almost completely different than the standard 4.7L PCM...I have no friggin idea why. I "think" the HO PCM is also mapped to (or maybe above) 6K RPM, unlike our standard PCM...
While you're doing the headwork, get larger valves. It'll make a huge difference!

Message: Why does our 4.7 shut down at a low 5700 RPM's anyway?
This motor has GOT to be able to run at least 6500 even stock I would think.
After I do some internal mods, I'd be interested in getting a flash to kick up my redline as well.
Anybody know some links for some GOOD (not junk) PCM flashes. Or is the MOPAR HO PCM just as good?
My next two mods will be dual exhaust and the cam/intake swap.

Message: Like Demon Dak said, the H.O. computer will NOT work in a Dakota. The best (and only) places to check are with Mike Leach (2000 only) Or, with Kenny Bell. My truck will pull up to the 6000 rpm fuel shutoff no problem, and it could do a bunch better above that, but the pcm is the main problem for now.

Message: Demom Dak, since u already changed the cam & manifold did u get any mil light or other problems. Also how do u set the Tps.? Lastly when u say the stock pcm huts fuel off at 5700 rpm, i can rev mine to 6200-6300 in drive when on a mashed pedal.
P.S. thanks fir the info, everybody..

Message: Could someone post for us what the HP's are for the various years and do they vary between models of any years. Are the HO cams standard on any years or models? Are the HO cams a straight swap for the stock cams? What is different between the stock and HO cams. Lift, duration? Does anybody have any specs on the HO cams? Thanks..

Message: Allan,
no offense,
type what you want to know into the 'search box' on one of these forums, and eveything you want to know, and then some, is here, in the archives.
Blu, the cams and intake throw NO codes on the reg. 4.7.
Allan,
The HO motor only made a few years, has only one variation as far as I know. There's a website taht lists in table form the differences. Sorry, son't have it handy now, someone will post, or put it in the search box.
Good luck

Message: The HO cams are from a Jeep application, different PCM including info from knock sensors we don't have. Dodge 4.7s have 2 power levels with 5 HP difference, depending on wether you have one cat or the lower emissions package that has an additional 2 precats. I'm not sure if the injectors on the HO motor are different. We're only .5 less on the compression.
