Subject: '92 headers on a '93 = Performance?
IP: Logged

Message:
Good morning alll,
I just read this >> http://www.sporttruck.com/techarticles/1411/index.html

and have a question about the last paragraph. Is it true what they say? That headers from a 1992 dakota can be installed on a 1993, and give about a 10hp increase? I have a 3.9L extended cab sport.

If this is true, off to the junk yard I go...Unless one of you can sell me performance headers for cheap (slightly used (4-6K miles) or brand new).

If you mean the exhaust manifold then I'd have to say that the 92's and 93's both have larger inside diameter. I beleve they made them smaller for 94 and up.

Wow I just read that article. Great Reading! Nice early morning pickmeup... (intentional pun) I read somewhere else that the 92's as well as 93's have the larger exhaust manifold. One source is wrong, I dont know which one. I can check the part number on my '93 manifold if someone out there can do the same for their '92.

'92 and '93 Dakota are rated at 230 hp, and have the larger diameter exhaust collector.

It's the same for the 5.2L jeeps as well.

I have sold a few of these manifolds---

Good stealth HP move.

Not sure on the 3.9L applications-- believe it's only for the 5.2L

Mark good to see you posting again. The 3.9 for 1992 do have the larger exhaust manifolds I also read somewhere that these manifolds flow pretty close to the JBA headers thats why im still running mine the inside diameter is 2 1/2 inches compared to 1 7/8 inches for the 94-2003 then again the 1992 also had 3" exhaust all the way back also.

Yes I am getting into posting here and there. Lately I've learned a lot about my truck. I'd like to share this info because people have been so helpful to me. There were many times when I was in a bind and I needed some info. I simply brought up the ole DodgeDakotas.com search box and found my answer. Grease all over the keyboard and all. haha

Where did you get your hood Mark? I want/need one like that. Is that a full new hood, or just a nice scoop?

I made that hood myself. I got the plastic scoop from summitracing. It's a bond on type with rivots and that green fiberglas bondo junk. Then I repainted the hood. That was 5 years ago. Unfortunately after about two or three the paint started chipping up because I used lacquer over the factory urethane. I chose lacquer because its less toxic and I have use it a lot in the past. A few months ago I got a new hood from AAR. This time I used urethane. Luckilly I'm still alive and the paint looks a lot better. I will have new pictures one day when I get time to wash the beast. The hood you see in the pictures is sitting in my basement.

I have the hood sitting in my basement. That picture was taken years ago. I now have an AAR fiberglas hood. The one you see pictured has the paint peeling off. I suppose I would sell it to someone in the NJ area.

The inside diameter of the 92-93 V-8 manifolds is 2 1/8" vs. 1 7/8" for the later. I have a pair on the shelf that have been ground smooth and Jet-Hot coated that will be going into my truck soon along with a new Y-pipe.
If you are looking to buy some look around, I have seen them go for as little as $ 10 a pair, common price at a salvage yard is approx 35 ea.

I thought '92 & '93 3.9's were the same. '94s have all of the new sh@t under the hood.
