Subject: What would you do? IP: Logged
Message: Ok, here is the deal guys. I am thinking about buying a 03 Dakota RT. I recently test drove one, and i was impressed, but i want a little more power. I dont know to much about SC, cold air intakes, or performance mufflers except from what i have gathered on this site, and from my friends z28 camaro. So here is the question. If you had to do it all over again, what mods would you do to increase the ponies. Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Message: I will prolly get flamed for my opinion but here it goes:
I think that most aftermarket add-ones (i.e. K&N intake, Cat back exhaust, computer chip, throttle body) are going to give very little performance gain.
From what I have researched as far as dyno gain from these add-ons is that you 'might' get 50hp for all the standard bolt-ons.
What I recommend is going straight to a supercharger if you want horsepower. With a supercharger you get absolute horsepower gain as opposed to all the 'up to xx hp gain'.
Good luck on your quest for performance parts
P.S. If you want an interesting read on performance parts add-ons check out the Kenne Bell website http://www.kennebell.net

Message: nothing to flame really...with pcm,fb50mm,m1 2bbl,kngen2 alone I gained about 50hp and 45' tq over stock.
all the regular bolt ons should add up close to 65-70 hp:
kngen2,fb50-52mm,moparpcm,m12bblintake,headers,
2.5" duals or 3"-3.5" single exhaust,1.7 rockers,ignition, maybe 4.56 gears...maybe a jet2 chip..
good for about a 14.0 1/4 +- depends on hook and air.
just slap on a powerdyne alone....good for about 14.0 1/4 mile +-....could up the boost or cool the charge for more speed. A paxton might get you more.
my choice is do the bolt ons and slap on a blower...should see 12's @ 9psi.
there's other ways to do it.

Message: After that, bolt ons like headers should really shine.
