Message: the 4.7 is the same design as the hemi, the 5.2 is the same design as the 5.9... the .7's will get better gas... or well about the same,... the 5.2 is just and older engine and will have more after market parts for it.... but the 4.7 is coming along in that.... and the 4.7 has more hp. and tourque.... i personally would get the 4.7, it's newer and that means it will have less problems in the next few years.
my two cents.

Message: Whoa!!!! The 4.7L is NOT the same as the Hemi! 4.7L and 3.7L are related. The 4.7L will have an advantage as far as being more modern and having an overhead cam set up.Both will respond great to mods. The 5.2L will have a torque advantage.(normally aspirated)Torque moves these 4000+ lb trucks. In time performance parts for the 4.7L will be just as available as the LA engine stuff.

Message: NO SH*T, Anyone who thinks the 4.7 is the same as the HEMI needs to starting reading more, THATS NOT EVEN CLOSE, The 5.9 Has much more resemblance to the HEMI than the 4.7 and For the answer. The 5.2 Can take more stress and is able to get much more power out of external modifications. But if your into the soccer mom kinda motor go with the 4.7

Message: I have a 5.2 and a 4.7 and I would take the 4.7 anyday hands down. The 4.7 feel more like it's always on power, where the 5.2 seems slow and tired, and requires a lot of time to get up and going. Any one that doubts is more than welcome to come to my house and ride in both.

Message: The 5.2, hands down. The basic design has been around since the mid 60's, with the Magnum designation coming on in 1992. It's a bulletproof engine, and naturally aspirated, it has more torque than the 4.7 (cubic inches provide torque).
The statement by DAKX01, "i personally would get the 4.7, it's newer and that means it will have less problems in the next few years," is totally absurd. An engine that has been around for over 30 years will have more kinks worked out than one that has been around for 2 years. The 318 has been used in old school muscle cars (as the base engine), police cars, and hardworking trucks, all without fault. Preliminary testing can only do so much to find problems and correct them; real-world testing is necessary to find the flaws and correct them, and that only comes with time.
The 5.2 is all about torque and reliability, the 4.7 is about revs and fuel economy. Take your pick.

The 5.2 can take more stress? Hummm Debateable. The 4.7's just haven't been around long enough to compare on a long-term duel. The fact is, they are both great motors, but the 5.2 wouldn't have been phased out if it was the superior motor. I've had the 3.9, 5.2, 5.9, and 4.7. They've all been good performers.
4.7 a soccer-mom-mobile-motor? Only if your mom likes to get where she's going in a hurry, and get good gas mileage.
I doubt you've had the time to modify a 4.7, because if you had, you would realize it's potential. I saw one of your other posts bashing the 4.7's. I see you're in Arizona. Why was it that you didn't answer Duner's friendly request to match both of your trucks up at the track?
Why? You don't want to get your ass handed to you by a 4.7. That's why.
Enjoy your 5.2/5.9, but don't bash others for what they chose. They obviously got the combo that best suited their needs at the time.

Message: 30+ years of the 318ci and they are just now phasing it out? Must have been something pretty good about it. It's like old faithful, to me the perfect mix of power and torque plus a plethora of bolt on modifications that the 4.7 does not have YET (that is the key word). Obviously a lower displacement equals a higher power to torque ratio and i love torque.
The 4.7 is only 10HP better than the 5.2, though not sure about the torque nos. the 5.2 has 300ft-lbs?? I've driven both and prefer the 5.2. 4.7 requires more RPM's to make the same power as the 5.2.

Message: 4.7 w/ a supercharger and true dual exhaust in the right lane..... every shift at 5500 rpm. How many mods and how much rpm does the 318 need to run 13.50's?
