I don't want to start an argument, but this is bad ass that Ford is going to actually PRODUCE AND SELL this 500HP/500 Ft Lb supercar to the public in a few years. The 2005 Ford GT.
Not bad for a supercharged 5.4
It did say that 80% of the car's internals were GT specific, (not the same as in the F150).

Message: Once again, evidence of Ford's growing obsession with throwing superchargers on poorly designed engines to produce more power. Hell, the Viper SRT 10 is only in its first year, and it has 500 hp/525 tq from a naturally aspirated engine, with comparatively low compression (i.e. greater reliability). The s/c in the Ford won't be the only thing whining when the Viper kicks its @ss.

Message: So what does that make all the people who put blowers on their Daks? I guess they're just compensating for Dodge's poor engine designs?
The number of of cars that come from the factory with blowers is quite large including several offerings from the folks who own currently own Dodge.
Admit it, the GT40 is an awesome car that 99.9% of the people on this board could never dream of owning.

Any motor that can handle boost is not that junky, look at the 1980 Turbo Trans Am, with the 301Cid? Now that motor was junky.
Not the Buick V6 GN engine.
Even if the Dodge V10 has as much peak power doesn't mean that it is. A boosted engine will always have a broader power band compared to it's N/A version of it's self.
I don't see any big rigs running N/A setups. Now if Dodge setups the V10 with boost, then you'll get this :)

Message: Hanky, notice my first post; "Once again, evidence of Ford's growing obsession with throwing superchargers on poorly designed engines to produce more power." FORD'S!
AnthonyG, the reason big rigs don't run naturally aspirated is because the large diesel engines they use require more air to produce the proper combustion environment, which is where the turbocharger comes in. More air + diesel fuel = proper combustion and big torque, get it?
I personally don't like superchargers, because they are engine parasites; they reqire some of the engine's power to run, and in some cases can cause unwanted side effects (parasitic power loss, anyone?). I know there are a ton of vehicles coming from the factory with superchargers; if you notice, not many of them are coming from Dodge (Mercedes, yes). If someone wants a supercharged vehicle, I have no problem with that; there just won't be one going on my truck.

Message: Anthony - my guess is that the torque that comes with the big cubes in the NA viper will allow it to walk all over this thing. American muscle was back long before this Ford, but what a lot of us would like to see is affordable muscle - and you can bet this isn't it !

LOL come on guy's Blown engines make more power.
Blown engine do tend to wear out faster and have more problems. I wouldn't mind having either of these two engines :)

Message: The GT is fine and dandy, but don't you think all that design and engineering effort would have paid off better in IMPROVING the Mustang? Ironic that the same company that produces a Car called the Focus actually has no focus at all. If any car company was to be diagnosed with ADHD its definately ford. Crank out a car, produce it for 10 years... scrap it, make a brand new one with brand new problems. Improve what you got, earn a new reputation for standing by the lemons that you sell... maybe ill buy one.

Message: You will not have a supercharger in your truck because it is parasitic? Turning that thing must take a whole 10 horsepower at the most while it produces 100. Superchargers help to squeeze every ounce of efficiency out of an engine. No matter what you do to an engine, you are not enjoying the full power of the engine until you force some air into via super or turbo charger.
I have never heard of power loss being a side effect of supercharging an engine.
I have noticed many people on this board seem to have the "Lightning Envy Syndrome" by which I mean that anything that is supercharged is dismissed as some sort of cheating or something. I have never heard a Ford or Chevy guy say, "Oh, Mopar designed such a poor quality engine that they had to make it bigger than ours." There is nothing poorly designed about Ford's supercharged engines. In fact, many of them will blow the doors off our trucks. Dodge, Ford, and Chevy all design great engines, they are just designed differently.

Message: Ford makes great cars, regardless of what a few morons have to say. I live in the San Jose area, and I frequent Sacramento Drags etc. The two most impressive cars I have seen go down the 1320 are the new Mercedes 495HP sedan and the 2003 Cobra. The Z06 is close to the Cobra, but bang for the Buck, it's $20,000 to much. The benz ran 8 consecutive 12.0's @ 115. It then ran a 11.98 @ 116. The $33,000 Cobra ran a stealh 11.91 @ 117!
This car was modified, 1) smaller blower pulley $100. 2) Borla cat back $700 3) Cold air intake $200. That is a High 11 second car for roughly 34,000! You guys can smoke your crack pipes and praise Dodge all day long, but you know absolutley bothing about going fast. Stack a Viper up to this car, same performance=double the price. Inorance is bliss True?

Chief engineer in charge is a business friend of mine, called me up whining about how he couldn't believe that the re-make of the great american muscle car won't even have a american engine. Its being manufactured by a Australian company outside of the states. So much for that eh!

Message: For the love of God, can't you people read more than one line!?! "They require some of the engine's power to run, and in some cases can cause unwanted side effects." IN SOME CASES! Of course superchargers add power, no SH*T! What I'm saying is that in SOME CASES, they can be more of a problem than a help. Top fuel funny cars often run nitrous or turbos, because neither one has the parasitic characteristics. For the AVERAGE STREET VEHICLE, yes, a supercharger will add power, because the average street driver/vehicle won't be breaking the 200 mph barrier. Ever wonder why the world's supercars (Lambos, Ferarris, Vipers, Porsches) don't use superchargers? If they use forced induction at all, they use turbochargers.
I have a feeling that those of you flipping out over what I've said have previously, or currently, own a Ford product and/or a supercharged vehicle; regardless of if you do or don't, you need to work on your reading ability. Didn't you ever listen to your teachers when they said, "Read the whole problem before giving a response?"

They never said anything about it being competition for a Vette or the Viper, they were comparing it to the Lamborgini's and Ferrari's!!!

I've not seen one, lately, with a turbo and nitrous. BTW, the car that started this thread is not "new". It is a remake of the GT-40 that was designed in the 60's to compete against Ferrari at Le Mans. It was called a GT-40 because it was 40" at its highest point.
