Message: Are there any other differences from the 4.7 and the 4.7 HO
other than CAMS, INTAKE MANIFOLD, and COMPUTER
PROGRAM? I guess what i am asking is there any chance of
changing these parts and also the comp flash to gain
almost the same 270hp.
I already did the HO cams and i am looking for more.

Message: yes their are more things different, if you do a search you may find an old post I replied to where I listed all the differences, I can't remember them all off hand. A tech at dodge gave me a training booklet that he received and it tells all the differences. Some parts ARE NOT interchangeable. If you can't find the old post I'll look for the booklet and anwser your ? in more depth.

Message: pistons, crank, rods (IIRC), intake, ECU, cams, springs/retainers, heads, maybe exhaust manifolds (can't recall at the moment). I think those are the major differences (off the top of my head).

Message: There is still a difference....My stock 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee would EAT my 2003 4.7 Dak (with HO cams) alive to about 60. I think the magazines said the Grand Cherokee was one of the fastest SUV to 60 (around 6.7 sec) with exception of some of the new high $$$ Beemer and Porsche. There is a big difference in the way it pulls and makes power - very smooth. Why and how?? ...I don't know.

Message: 4.7 liter V-8 (287 cu in., 235 bhp)
The all-new 4.7-liter V-8 engine offers more power, less weight (438 lbs), increased fuel efficiency and lower emissions than the 5.2-liter engine it replaced.
4.7 liter V-8 HO (287 cu in., 265 bhp)
A High Output version of the 4.7L was introduced starting with the 2002 model year. The modifications (listed below) added 30 bhp and 30 FT-LB of additional torque. The HO engine is designed to run perfectly on standard octane fuel, but for maximum performance premium fuel is recommended.
The HO engine is standard on all Overland models, and is optional on the 4WD Limited and the 2004 Freedom Edition (approx. $890 MSRP). It has not been available on the Laredo, Laredo Sport or Special Edition models. All 2002 models with the HO engine featured a nice custom chrome exhaust tip. This was, unfortunately, decontented starting with 2003 model year production.
Summary of HO engine feature differences
1. Camshaft - custom profile lobes (designed for increased performance)
2. Connecting rods - modified, with floating wrist pins (vs pressed-fit pins in standard V8)
3. Crankshaft - forged steel (vs cast iron in standard V8) 11. Main bearings - tri-metal (vs bi-metal in standard V8, designed specifically for the HO engine)
4. Crankshaft damper - unique to HO 12. PCM calibration - unique programming
5. Cylinder heads - different shaped combustion chambers (for improved airflow) 13. Pistons - dome shaped for increased compression ratio
6. Exhaust tip - chrome (2002 models only, decontented for 2003 models. Available only as a one-piece assembly with muffler) 14. Spark plugs - platinum tipped
7. Fuel injectors - higher flow (+3.3 lb/hr) 15. Valves - unique exhaust valves (same lift as standard V8)
8. Intake manifold - modified (shorter runners)
9. Intake - low-restriction intake system (different resonator, air filter, air filter hose and housing)
10. Knock sensors - two, stereo
11. Main bearings - tri-metal (vs bi-metal in standard V8, designed specifically for the HO engine)
12. PCM calibration - unique programming
13. Pistons - dome shaped for increased compression ratio
14. Spark plugs - platinum tipped
15. Valves - unique exhaust valves (same lift as standard V8)
16. Valve springs - upgraded valve springs (intake & exhaust. Larger diameter wire and more coils)

Message: All good info in the last post.. BUT the ho was around in 2001. I bought the HO parts for a 2001 last summer to put in my 2000 dakota... so if the HO goes older than that I am not sure but there at least is a 2001 model...
As for the GC and how it accelerates.. it really does scream for a factory set-up (with an auto at that)... We love ours...

Message: I have a 2000 Dakota with cracked heads. Is there any advantage to just doing the HO heads/cam? Or is it useless without doing the rest of the HO package? Also if I just do heads/cam how does that affect the computer? Would I have to have it re-programmed?
Thanks!
