Message: I am about to purchase an underdrive pulley for my 4.7l engine. They are for sale on www.rpmoutlet.com for $258.00 They claim 12rwhp and 26rwtq. I am waiting for them to send me the official dyno that those #'s came from. Does anyone have this pulley installed on their truck? and what kind of gains did you get perceived or real dyno #'s. I'd rather not waste my money if this is like many of the other performance parts out there for the 4.7 that do nothing except lighten the wallet. Thanx for any info.... Tom J.

Message: I bet they $hit when you asked for the dyno sheets they claim to have. Advertised HP gains from manufacturers are totally overrated. My Jet chip is worth 25 HP (they say) , yeah right. Why did I run .4 sec faster when I took it off ?
I would guess 5-8 HP for the pulley but a nice amount of torque. Keep us posted.

Message: I think they are jerking me around. A guy named George @ rpmoutlet.com told me he would scan and e-mail me the dyno #'s last monday. I have called twice since then and I am told they will get right on it but still no e-mail. Without dyno numbers to back it up, do you guys think that the hp/tq gains are there? or are we talking not enough gains to justify the possible problems of underdriving your charging system? Thanx.......Tom J.

Message: Try e-mailing ASP themselves. You might get a better response. If they tell you they don't have the numbers then ask them how do they figure on selling any pulleys. And tell them if they can post some real numbers they'll sell a whole lot more.

Message: A complete set of pulley's will help a lot. The pulleys don't add power, they free up the power that is already there. Your engine will rev faster and pull harder. The stock pulleys weigh quite a bit so your reducing weight and making it easier to turn. I bet there numbers aren't too far off.
Hope this helps some

Message: I would only install a underdrive crankshaft pulley myself if they offer one. Unless they offer some proof that there is no problems with charging or cooling with these pulleys. I might believe 12 rwhp on the 4.7 but, I'm not sure about 26rwtq.

Message: Exactly, I think that is why noone has bought and iunstalled one of these. $270 is a hefty amound for 12 HP, but it is 12 easy HP... But bring the proof and maybe we can get a GB going on it... I am always looking for more power that the wife will never know about....

Message: I've pondered getting pulleys for a while, but haven't gottoen around to it. I was worried it would hurt the cooling & charging of my truck.
I have friends who put the pulleys on 5.0 mustangs and felt noticable improvements.
I'm curious to hear from somebody who has a set on a Dak.

Message: This crank pulley will not charge at idle. It will take 850 rpm's to start the charge. At idle you will be discharging from the battery. As for the dyno sheet I can not find it. As for anyone else I do not know. If they did not work we would not make them. We have been making underdrive pulleys for 15 years.
This is an email I recieved from a tech at ASPracing.com. Basically if you do an excessive amount of idling (i.e. sitting in traffic) this pulley might not be for you. OR you could get one of those little dash mounted solar battery maintainers and get over it. If yer still paranoid get an optima battery. Optimas weigh 15lbs lighter than the stock battery anyhow. So you'd get some weight saving as well. OR just rev your engine some if you are idling alot.

Message: If you do a lot of idling than this may not be for you. It will not kill the battery in 5 minutes but at night with the lights on and ac wide open in 30 minutes you will be dead.
A second email I got from ASPracing

Message: I took the plunge and bought the underdrive crank pulley. I can't tell you how many posts i have found where people have said they have ordered or just received there pullies and never follow up with what the results are so I don't think I'm am going to say anything more.

Message: I was just kidding! But I must say I was very irritated when people don't follow up. Anyways on with the results........ I thought I could feel something immediately after the install without resetting the PCM. I don't know if i quickly have gotten used to my new found power or if it didn't exist at all. My gas mileage in town seems to have gone up .5 or better and the engine does seem to rev better but doesn't seem anymore powerful. WARNING!!!! The pulley is not easy to install. It did not fit on the crank and took some extreme measures to get it on. I am not a mechanic by trade but I consider myself one and this project was a bitch. I actually did this at a ASE certified mechanics garage and he couldn't get it on. I wouldn't give up and finally beat it on. I am having 0 problems with the charging system and the A/C works OK at idle but definitely better going down the road. I don't think the pulley is a bad idea but I'm not going to reccomend it either. I will be honest I have modded my truck with K&N drop-in, MagnaFlow 3"in/ 3"out muffler, HO cams, 70mm F&B TB, underdrive pulley, 3923 SP, 180 TS, Homebrew intake, and relocated the AIT sensor. After taking my boat up to the mountains last week I realized I have less towing power than my truck had completely stock. I'm pretty sure my muffler is the culprit but after a thousand dollars in mods I expected better. Good Luck and I'll keep you posted TJ

Message: I have had my underdrive for like a year now, but I never installed it. I was going to get a supercharger and I didn't want to run it with it. But now I've scrapped the SC idea totally. I am going for the NX kit now.
So I will probably give an attempt at installing the crank pulley sometime here soon.
Tom J. I was probably one of that damn people skipping out on results. hehe. I had no results to give *shrug*

Tires are easier, I can beat it.
