Subject: Ignition Issues IP: Logged
Message: I'm having strange issues with the ignition on my '92 Dak 318. I replaced several of the ignition parts. OEM cap/rotor, holley annihilator wires, autolite plugs, mallory promaster coil. Well ever since i got it back together the truck seems to sputter when driving at a constant RPM or under slow acceleration. I can feel it inside the truck and it will shudder maybe every 30 seconds or so even to the point where it will backfire. Well I checked the plug connections, firing order, cap seating, timing, etc. but nothing seemed to be wrong. Then I bolted up the factory coil and it worked fine. So I returned the Mallory coil for a replacement, bolted it up and it does the same thing. Tried extending the gap on the plugs thinking that it may be arcing prematurely (currently @ 40). Still did it. Do I need to continue gapping the plugs until it runs smoothly? (Possibly out to 58) What is the problem here? I'm stumped.
Thanks
Ben
