Your stock gears should be 3.92's you could go to 3.55's that should help a little.

Message: Welcome to the wonderful world of Dodge ownership. Up here in Canada, Dodge took 3 of the top ten worst gas mileage vehicles. Dodge has always been known for its poor mileage numbers. My family has been very lucky with our vehicles however. 98 Ram 4x4 quad cab 15-18mpg, 98 durango 4x4 318 15-20mpg and my 97 dak 318 auto RC 3.90 rears gets 16-20mpg depending on how hard you drive it. Thats US gallons.

Message: I have a 2001 cc R/T and get between 8.5-9mpg in the city and about 14 on the highway. Yeah it sucks gas but thats what happens when you drive a V-8 pick-up. Before I bought the R/T I had a 2001 cc.4x4 v-6 dak that only got 13.5 mpg in the city never took it down the highway to find out the mpg. Long live the push rod small block mopar. My dad has a 70 Plymouth Duster 340 that gets about 2 mpg and will only run on 110 octane or higher race gas but it runs 10's hopefully 9's this year.

All the highway miles are towing an estimated 2,000lb boat/trailer combo at 70MPH over flat terrain. My '96 4.0l V6 Ranger got the same mileage, but had NO power so I'm complaining. Just wish gas was cheaper ;)

Dealership is clueless and not very helpful. If gas stays at about 1.80 a gallon for more than a month, I'm going to sell the piece of !@#$ and get a nice coupe.

Message: DakotaJesse....I would think it it might be a dirty throttle body...more likely the idle air control valve. Located behind the throttle body, held in by 2 torx screws. I had the same problem, rough idle...I removed the TB to clean and removed the valve and the valve fell apart. 42 bucks at your local Auto Zone.
As far as gas milage, 98 4 by 4 3.9, with 3.92 gears...I get 12 miles to the gallon....no matter how I drive it. K&N air filter, 180 stat, Denso Plugs, brass cap and rotor, no difference. Thought about putting on another muffler, something along the lines like a Raven, but hard pressed to spend any more money to squeeze a 1/10 of a mile more per gallon. Also using Amsoil fluids in everything, engine oil, tranny, transfer case, front and rear difs.. Not noticeable increase in milage.

Message: I just installed a hypertech Programmer. So I decided to get the speedo right on the money.I had suspicions that it was reading a bit fast.
I Have been running 255/55/17 dunlops for 60k.
The Dunlop spec is only .010 larger than the stock Goodyear's
How about 15 mph at hwy speed. I just thought everyone else drove like grandma's around here.
It's been this way for so long it just seemed normal. After getting it callibrated I just didn't believe it could be right. I felt like I was really creeping along down the hwy.
That difference changed the perceived mileage by 4 mpg. I just ran an agressive tank and still got 17.5 mpg.
Maybe this is why we see such a variance in mpg.
The good news for me is that the odometer has been reading low...:)
