I asked Marty at KRC this same question since at the moment I fall under DE inspection and plan on putting in a stroker. He said that he has never had one of his motors come against a sniffer but he had three suggestions:
1. Change to the stock R/T cam for a week or so during the test and hope for the best.
2. Change to an MSD digital ignition and burn the hell out of the spark plugs.
3. Go to the F.A.S.T. computer.
I think #3 is the best option as it seems like it will give the best results. Although it is rather pricey it will do more than get the user through emissions. Sorry I can't tell you anything from experience, though I hope this helps.

Sorry, but a FAST system isn't going to be any magic bullet to get you through emissions. It depends on the rest of the setup as to how clean you can make it and if the cam profile is too wild, doesn't matter what's controlling it, it won't pass.

i dont think there is a snowcone's chance in hell that it will pass.

just curious, do the 318 and 360 have to meet the same smog numbers?

The thing is, in thier RV/towing motor which is the one that I want, they have the mopar RT cam in it... not too wild a cam I dont think. The other thing is, sniffers dont go by what motor you have, rather the weight and the class size that the vehicle fits into.

So graphite,

A cam with little overlap and a hot spark would get closest to the goal of passing?

A cam with a lot of duration and reversion are going to be nearly impossible to clean up.

If you want a cam that will at least get you in the neighborhood, pick one from the MP catalog.

They are getting rid of exhaust sampling testing where I live (Chicago) and going with the OBD plug in test. They check for stored codes and "readiness" indicators. I supposed you could pass if you have too much HCs (unburnt fuel) and all the emissions equipment is in working order.

I`m still doing research on the subject.
Anybody know anybody the works for the emissions place ?

Seems like I have nothing but questions... Do any of you know of a list of states that require emissions testing? As much as I don't want to limit myself to the places I can live when out of school it might give me something to think about. It's been a while since I was reminded how helpful this board is. Thanks

Dave

It's not always the whole state that requires testing. I live in OH and my county doesn't require testing but the counties around the major cities do.

Just out on some huge cats for a couple of days when you get it tested and then cut them back off.
