Subject: Superchargers... IP: Logged
Message: Hey Guys,
As you have probably already read, im planning on purchasing a supercharger once i get my tax money back. I have a few questions, why do all the websites i have seen that talk about S/C's for the 5.9L Daks all change with years. Arent all Gen III engines and body styles the same? Why is everything different and more costly with the newer the year? I have an 02 and cant find any SC other than the Kenne Bell that "supposedly" work on my year. Please any info you have will be great, price is not much of an option, but if all things are equal, cheaper would be better i guess, thanx!

Message: Mechanically speaking, there is no difference in the 5.9L/46RE drivetrain throughout the 1998-2003 spectrum for Dodge Dakotas. The PCM's are slightly different from year to year, and the electric fan debuted at the end of 2000 I believe.
There are 5 superchargers available for the 5.9L engine... ATI, Kenne Bell, Paxton, Vortech, and Powerdyne. The Paxton tends to be regarded as the best of the bunch for total power, and the Powerdyne is the cheap bang for the buck. ATI/Vortechs are good blowers, and the Kenne Bell is considered to be difficult to tune for the 360.

Message: Well thanx for the info, but i guess my question is......if it says its for 97-00 years, would i be able to still use it on my 02 without any mods or anything, just a 100% direct install?
ps...i dont have an electric fan :(

Message: some supercharger companys change things on there kits...
example, the older vortech (up to 97? i beleve) use a FMU like the powerdynes..the newer kits use auxillary injectors to supply the fuel, and a extra computer that tells them when to fire. its a better setup, but makes the price go up.
another example is, the powerdyne kit...i got mine off of a 97 ram (and works great on my truck, by the way) it uses a hobbs switch to turn on the aux. fuel pump. the newer kits just wire it to the key on position, so it turns on as you start the truck. its a better way to do it, and i have mine hooked up like that.

Message: i dont have a E-mail right now, so i cant mail you...
i dont really want to sell it, but make a offer, and i will see where we stand
here is what i have...
-powerdyne and every nut, bolt, hose, and instructions.
-bigger air filter
-paxton aluminum air hat
-bosch bypass valve
-MSD 6TM (and every thing that came with)
-8 21lb injectors
- 6lb & 9lb blower pulleys
-auxilary belt tencioner
-7 rib belt for the 9lb pulley (powerdyne uses a 6rib on the 6lb pulley)
....and i think thats about it.
the only reason i am considering selling it, is because i know someone who is selling a paxton novi 2000 kit. if he sold it, i am not selling mine. if he still has it, i might consider it.

Message: Procharger is now advertising kits for the 5.2/5.9 Dodge. Look into them as they have the available intercooler for more reliable boost/power. My advise is email these companys and ask questions, most if not all do make for the '02 year, I know as I already asked but havent'decided yet.

Message: Thanx guys, speaking of ATI, they dont have a kit for the 02 yet and dont have a clue when they will have, and like Kota said, that intercooler hangs way too low for my everyday driver on Albuquerque, NM city streets!
