Subject: 44re shift point ? IP: Logged
Message: I have a '97 with a 44re . I have added a trans go shift kit and mopar pcm . I have a shift point of 5100 rpm but want to go higher (5300-5500), when I adjust the TV cable it shifts higher but the 1-2 shift gets all messed up (it starts to shift at 5100 rpm the locks back up and will shift at 5400 rpm ). It has the stock Governor Pressure Sensor and I have a new one on order so the pan is coming down in the hope that this fixes the problem . Is there anything else that I should do to keep a good 1-2 shift and be able to move the rpm's up?

Message: Does your problem occur at WOT, part throttle or both? I have the 44RE with Transgo kit. Under WOT, my 1-2 shift will hold and not shift out of 1st unless I lift a bit off the pedal. I've replaced the governor pressure solenoid and governor pressure sensor and adjusted TV cable without solving the problem.

Message: The problem is at WOT and only with the TV cable ajusted a bit to tight. I have the M1 and other mods that make power to 5500+ rpm and want to get a good shift at a higher rpm.

Message: You could try manual upshifts. Put gear in 1st and shift to 2nd at the rpm you want and then the same for the 2-3 shift. I used to be able to do this at the track but now the 1-2 shift will stay in 1st until I hit the rev limiter. My manual 2-3 shift will shift at any rpm. What I've had to do is launch with the gear in 2nd, get the kickdown, and, at the rpm that I want, lift the pedal just a little (maybe 1/4 to 1/2") to get it to shift to 2nd and get back down on the pedal all in one smooth motion. With my mods, I need the 1-2 shift at 5300 and the 2-3 shift at 5600, depending on conditions.
I believe (cannot prove) that the problem is either a faulty valve body or that the pcm needs to be reprogrammed with higher rpm shift points (cost would be the same for a full flash).

Message: Does it actually shift from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 without a second or two hesitation and reving about 500 rpm? That's what my 97 V-8 auto does... I'm considering a shift-kit, if that will help. I've got plenty of power, just can't get it to the wheels! Very frustrating. Transmission shop said everything is working normal (!!) and that this is the way they are supposed to work. Hard to believe. Seems like all that reving and slipping while shifting would be hard on the tranny... anyone have any input?

It sounds like you just have a slow shift , a shift kit will help in a big way .
What I want to do is to get a good shift at a higher rpm ( 5500 ) , I already have a great shift at 5100 rpm.
