Message: Going from 3.55 - 4.10 is a major jump, and will be very noticable gain in performance. You can go on up to 4.56 too, but you wouldn't recognize your truck and probably go crazy with tire spin. lol
What is tire fire?

Message: Grant,I would tend to beleive that going from 3.55s to 4.10s would make for a noticable improvement in acceleration and low end-grunt, with maybe a .5 mpg penalty in highway milage, if that.
The 4.56s, on the other hand, will take away at least 1 mpg at highway crusing speeds.
That being said, few mods help flatten out your eyeballs better then a set stiff gears, like 4.56s!

Message: Probably but your looking at a few more hundred dollers. Traction will be a bigger concern but with a good set of tires you will still be able to control it. From what I have heard you can spin the tires going 0-40mph with the 4.56 gears, without limited slip it may be even more fun trying to find traction.

Message: Thanks. Im starting to get it. I just got brand new tires and it makes a huge difference up here in b.c. in the rain, ive noticed it already with the rain, but i have wanted to get the limited slip for a while, and changing to 4.10 sounds pretty good. Would it be better to just go for a 3.92 or go all the way with a 4.10?

Message: Given the choice I would go with the 4.10, it's just a tad more gear then the 3.92s but you will like them. I have heard the lower gears makes for one of the biggest changes in the way your truck performs.
Or you can purchase someones stock gears and maybe save a few pennys.

I'm guessing around $300 for the entire thing but we will see. He usuelly gets back to me the next day. I also have another vendor that's going to get me a price monday. So I will keep you posted.

Randy's Ring and Pinion is about 300 for ring, pinion, seal, shim, instructions, and bearing kit (not to mention free support). Hopefully we can get a good price. Or maybe Randy's will be willing to give us a decent deal??

This is what he told me:
The 4.7 and 6 cyl use an 8 1/4 I believe. Those rears only have a richmond gear listing available but i can look further into it. they should stick to 3.91 gears or might run out of motor . they would need the rpm capabilities to make the end of the track but they have pcm problems(nothing available). cost on richmond gears is higher.
In the 5.9 area only a couple places are available, most use motive gears (ford motorsport) No richmond is made but i heard of another brand called "yukon" , it might
be a private label but made from motive.
Once again email me if your interested and what engine you have and I will get back to you with prices on Monday via your email address.

Message: R/Truck, a lot of the 4.7s use the 9.25 -- at least mine does. We can't count on deciding rear ends by engine or cab, we need the person to actually know their rear end. Simplicity.
Summit sells Richmonds actually. For pretty cheap. Check out their prices. Only problem there is they are sold out of 4.56s for the 9.25 'till I think late this month.

Message: So would I see much of an improvement in my R/T with 3.92's if I only go up to a 4.10 ? I dont take it to the track, its my "fun" vehicle. Only put about 400 miles a month on it. I just want a little more low end jump.

Message: I think the ratios are too close to be worth the money without that much of a difference. I would look at 4.56 or a higher stall TQ converter for a better launch plus a shift kit. The other option is to do motor work?

I need to look and see which rear end i have. is it, if i have 10 bolts i have the 8 1/4 and if i have 12 bolts i have the 9 1/4??

Message: I don't know if you plan on driving on the street with 4.56 gears but if you do you will probably not like them. I had a 4.56 unit in a 69 dart and it was too much for the street. It will literly wear out your motor if you drive it on the highway very much unless you have a really tall tire.

Message: Look at it this way, 3.92s --> 4.10 yields a 4.6% change. That seems way too small to me. I considered them too, but the difference changed my mind.

Message: Biggest thing I'm afraid of is that I'm around alot of highways here in Dallas and the lower gear will make it run at a higher rpm all the time and mine only being a 4 speed instead of 5 will mean big hurt on my engine in the long haul.

Message: The auto has a bigger OD gearing of .69 vs. .729 for the 5spd. The rpm's in the R/T with 4.56 gears will only be about 225 rpm's higher than the 5th gear of the stick with 3.92 gears at 60mph.

Message: I was just letting you know that the 5spd guys would turn more rpm's even in 5th gear. If your running 2500rpms@ 70mph with 3.92s, your rpms would be about 2910 with the 4.56s. If your worried about your rpms you could always get a slightly taller tire and cut the 4.56 gear to around 4.30s.

Message: If 4.10's aren't enough of a difference from 3.92 to merit spending the money, and many people feel that 4.56's are too much, why aren't people beating down some doors to have some 4.30's made for the 9.25" rear end? (I would but I don't know whose door to beat on, not my set of contacts)
