Subject: Optimizer + HO Cams IP: Logged
Message: Based on everything I've seen said about the "mildness" of the HO
cams, I expect that I will go against the (misguided ?) "textbook"
advice from KB about not combining the HO cams with an Optimizer II.
Thoughts ? Opinions ??
Does anyone already have the Optimizer II with HO Cams and a free
flowing aftermarket cat ???
(or any combination thereof ?)
(I'll do the cams and cat first)

Message: I wouldn't anticipate it being a problem (as they are pretty mild). And it is a really good idea to do them first.
Talk to ASE chips (they do the optimizer for KB as far as I know). I think they are a little more flexible in what they can do for you and I think they'd be more willing to reflash you if you were pinging or something.
Sorry I can't offer more advice.

Message: I don't know where the rumor started that ASE
does the Optimizer, but it's not true. ASE
opens your PCM and installs a chip. The KB
Optimizer is a flash, it's a software mod.
Search ASE, you will find a before and after
dyno of an ASE chip. No gain in HP or TQ.
They claim 26HP gain, if you call them and
ask to see the dyno sheet, they will tell you that
it is computer simulated results. They do get
ride of the speed limiter, which KB will not do. I
think its more snake oil, like a jet chip.

Message: I can't imagine why you shouldn't use the OptII with HO cams. You can put the cam specs in the KB order form and have it flashed to take advantage of them.

That's exactly what KB does...if you read the literature fine print, it says that they instally an 'auxillary processor' .. The Optiomizer I may have been a flash (I can't say), but I'm pretty sure the II is an ASE chip

Message: My optimizer II has no holes in it, It is a custom reprogram right there at Kenne Bell. Also I have the HO cams and there is NO detination at all just pure GO. It has never pinged or dinged. The very first thing I did when I got my truck with 800 miles on it was send it to Kenne Bell and have them flash it. Now the cams are in it really runs great.
