Message: I got a decrease of about 3L/100km (corresponds to an increase of about 5 mpg???) by porting and polishing the TB with a dremel tool, adding a homebrew cold air intake with insulated heatsheild and cooler spark plugs ... I also added a flowmaster cat back but I really doubt that does anything but sounds nice...I don't car what people say.

Message: Well, I just put in the Autolite 3923's and am considering putting a homebrew intake kit on this weekend. Not sure about any warranty issues removing the airbox, etc.. I'll have to go looking at other threads to see what's up with that.
As for the TB, I am new to this game and don't even know where the TB is, what it looks like, etc.. So before I go after my truck with a dremel can you point me in the right direction to educate myself a bit?
Thanks

Message: LOL .. going after your truck with a dremel!
The TB is the Throttle Body. It's located directly aft of the 'air hat'. The throttle cable connects to it, there's two plugs that also connect to it. Yours is a 2000, like mine, so it has a 65mm TB. Porting it makes a huge difference, but if you wanted you could get one from a 2001 or newer as they are factory 68mm .. or one step above that is to get a ported 68mm from the Fastman ($200 or something). Run as search on this website and I'm sure you'll come up with a lot of hits.
As far as removing the factory airbox, I'm pretty sure there's no warranty issues, as long as you put a good filter back on (K&N or some other known brand), now a piece of mosquito screen or something dumb. I think if you run a search on Google or something, there are some instructions out there about what you need etc. ... my advice though is to make sure you're still sucking cold air. The factory box was sucking cold air so why would you want to give it warm air? put a heat sheild on or something to direct cold air into it ... don't just leave an exposed filter under the hood (its freakin' hot under there!)
that's my $.02, hope it helps

Message: My '01 QC 4.7L auto 4x4 has had about a 20% increase in mileage since I put on a 360 intake.
I know 20% sounds high, but that's what I'm getting. All I have done so far is the intake.

Message: 20%! I find that hard to believe... sorry. You got the data to back up that claim? That would be like an extra 3 MPG over the factory #s.
I'm getting 12.9 MPG with my '02 SLT+ QC 4.7l 2WD AT w/3.92 LSD driving in the city and highway towing a 2,500lb boat @ 70 MPH w/the AC on.

and John, that's pretty crappy milage, especially a 2wd. I suppose it is a QC and 3.92 gears, but still. I was just in the mountains and the trip there I went 582.7km and filled up with 69L. The way back I went 564km and fill up with 58L. That's up and down hills, passing motorhomes, and full of camping gear. I can mail you the reciepts if you'd like.
the worst I've ever got is 415.2km using 60L, and that was towing a '77 12.5ft scamper trailer (I'm sure its ~5000lb at least)

Message: oh, btw, my truck is a 2wd 5spd.
oh, and ... that trip to the mountains I just talked about, I got 10.3L/100km (22.8 mpg)on the way back, and my buddy with a 2000 Monte Carlo SS with a V6 only got 8.5L/100km (27.7 mpg) ... that's less than 5mpg better than me ... and I beat his a$$ in a race :)
... oh, and my truck was $7000 less than his car!
... wait there's more, I had to haul his coolers cause he didn't have room!
heh heh ... I love my truck

Message: JMII - 12.5 mpg is horrible. I've got a 4x4 QC with the 4.7 and the WORST I've ever gotten was something like 15.9, and that was before I put my K&N on, pulling trailers and being lead footed about it.

Message: I suffered through 107 miles this evening at 70 MPH to see what my '02 CC/w 4.7L,5 speed, 3.92's would get for fuel milage.
I returned to my corner gas station and put in 20 Liters of fuel = 5.28 gallons. Super Unleaded Plus 93 Octane at $1.11 a Liter or $4.218 per Gallon.
107 miles devided by 5.28 = 20.26515
Mods = Intense Z-Tube w/7" S&B Filter, 3" Exhaust no cat Flowmaster, Kenne Bell Optimizer II, etc.

Message: I normally average about 14-15 mpg with city and highway driving.
The best I ever got wsa on a trip to Daytona and back. I could get about 19.5 on I95 at 80 mph.
I find as long as I set the cruise on a level highway and don't touch the gas pedal for 3-4 hours, I can get decent mileage.
Normally, I get 425 km on 75 liters.
My truck is a 2k CC 4x4, 3.55 lsd. Homebrew intake, autolite 3923s, 180' stat, clutch fan removed, HO cams, IAT adjuster, TPS at .75V.
