Message: Does anyone have a Mopar Performance computer in their truck and pull trailers with that truck? I have been told that we shouldn't pull trailers if we have the performance computer - something about too much timing. Help me with this one before I blow something up.

One of the biggest reasons for the "Do not tow with this PCM" deal is that the timing curve is much more aggressive. Under a load (from towing) it could possibly "ping" severely. Mopar Performance PCM's also "Highly Recommend" (if not Require) 92 Octane Fuel.

Message: If I run only 92 octane do you think I could get away with pulling my 3000 lb. bass boat? I looked at Hypertech but all they have is the "module". No programmers available from what I can see.

Hypertech should have a "Power Programmer" available for your truck. I know they have the PTM as well.

Message: I have the same problem with my 94 Dakota. The 5 minute pcm changeover becomes a real pain after 10-12 times. In a pinch, I towed a 3000 lb trailer, and the truck pulled with more power and no pinging (fortunately). I'm looking at installing MSD's universal ignition module with the adjustable timing retard. Perhaps this unit will allow the truck to tow without switching over the computers every weekend.

Good idea. Let me know how it works. I may do the same.

Message: My 94 SLT CC w/318, mopar performance PCM, and 3.55 anti-spin doesn't ping while using 93 octane pulling a trailer up hills in the Ozarks. I run 89 or 91 octane for daily driving, and then tank up with 93 octane for trailer towing.

Message: Hi ya, I'm getting tired of that damn rev limiter. I was wondering if I do get a mopar PCM will i still be able to pump 82 un leaded? Haha sounds silly but have heard stories of people saying you can't. Either taht or I was drunk that night.

Message: I used to drive a '95 dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9 in it. I installed a mopar performance computer and it made a huge difference in the power. I also towed a 21 foot boat every once in a while and had no troubles. I probably put around 70k miles on it with the computer and traded it in on a hemi, but the motor still ran like a bat out of hell. I am just waiting for them to make one for the 5.7 Also, I never ran premium fuel with the performance computer...all I used was plus fuel, which is like 89 octane or whatever, and it still ran fine. Hope this info can help.

Message: Also, the PCM takes all of 5 min to change. If you are going to tow, swap them.
