Subject: What size TB? IP: Logged
Message: hey guys,
when installing my Z tube friday night, i made it a point to check out my TB. i had read that some came with 65mm and others with 68mm. i looked on the throttle blade and didnt see the numbers i had expected. the only visible numbers on the whole thing (without removing it) were right on the top:
53013163AA
08010791 HFM
i seem to recall someone saying that the daks with CA emissions (like mine) are equipped with a 65mm, is that correct?
i was planning on getting a Fastman TB. if i currently have a 68mm TB, would it even make sense to go any bigger? or would a simple bore and polish job justify the cost?
btw, what is the purpose on an "S-bolt"? i have seen it mentioned on speedtweaks and on fastman's site, but it doesnt really say what the benefits are.
and just to double-check, a larger/smoother TB will help out with low-end correct? just dont want anything that kills my off-the-line performance.
thanks again guys!

Message: Yours will be a 68mm. The S-bolt is for the 3.9 5.2 adn 5.9 TBs. I ported mine but it doesn't flow as well as a fastman and not nearly as much as a F&B.

Message: Well the 53013163AA is the part number and the 08010791 HFM could possibly be an engineering number.
I think if you have a 2000 you have a 65mm and 2001-02 are equipped with a 68mm. but CA emissions may completely overrule what I had just posted.
I believe the "s" bolt is for the 3.9L, 5.2L and 5.9L. They originally are equipped with a plate that slightly covers the TB openings and attached to the plate there's a threaded rod holds the air hat down. if you remove that plate and put a regular treaded rod in it won't line up with the air hat so that's why it's an "s" shape. Obviously this will not work with your 4.7L

Message: I had the 65mm so I went with the Fastman 68mm. If I already had the 68mm I would have gone for the 71mm from the Fastman. I may end up getting the 71mm in the future once I have more mods.

Message: heh, thanks for the replies guys! how about another race for the stuff below :)
CW: do you mean that the F&B TB's will flow better than the Fastman TB? and how much of a difference would it make?
i'm more concerned about the performance rather than the looks/higher cost of the CNC'ed piece, so the price/performance ratio is pretty big in my mind.
and with either of them, is the 200-400 bux worth it since i already have a 68mm?

Message: CThomp: what did you notice as the biggest improvement? i am looking for really quick throttle response and off-the-line speed.
is it possible that i will make my new 3" Z-tube obsolete if moving up to a 70-71mm?
overall, is this the next best thing to do for my truck? i have already opened up the exhaust and air intake. would this be a better choice than say a high flow cat?
thanks again guys, i really appreciate the quick responses!

Message: If you move to a 70mm+ F&B then yes your 3in. z-tube will be obsolete. Not sure about the 71mm fastman because the Fastman is all inside diameter. So if you haven't run out you 30-day return policy you may want to think hard if you're gonna upgrade.

Message: i think i will stick with Fastman due to price considerations. plus, it wont stick out like a sore thumb if i need to take it to the dealer for anything. not worried about the warranty too much, just would rather not have the hassle, if you get what i mean.
i guess i'll have to get with Dan and see what he can do (and any dyno #'s) for the 68mm TB's.
thanks again man!

Message: Your gains will probably be about 12-14 h.p. You will "feel" a difference though.
