Message: Couldn't afford the 4x4, but I love the look. What are the suspension differences between the 4x2 and the 4x4 daks? GenIII. I've currently got the P255/65R16s and I've no idea the size of the wheel. I wanted to goto the 265/70-16 (That's the larger tire dodge will put on the 4x4s, right?) If you can take a guess as to the size of my wheels, would the 265/70-16 fit on them? You get the idea of what I want to do. What would it take to achieve it? Thanks for any info.

Message: Well you have 16x8 rims and yes those tires will fit on those rims. I would advise you don't buy goodyear wrangler tires(stock tires for dakota) they are junk as far a off-road tire anyway. and you should have to modify your truck at all to put those tires on you rims should fit just fine

Message: you won't get the same ride height. the 4x4's come with totally different suspension set up. they got bigger and stiffer leafs in back to raise the rear. and they have different control arms in front to raise up the front.

Message: Okay. That was the info I was looking for. Not what I was hoping for tho. =) From the pictures, it looks like a 3 inch difference. Perhaps it's not worth it to go with the larger tires.
Thanks for the help.

My 2WD sits a little bit over 1" taller than a 4x4 w/31" tires. As for ground clearance, I've got them beat...no front differential. (At least the solid axle 4x4 Dak's.)

Message: Also jsatter,
I've never really paid attention to mine, but I believe that the 4X4 uses a under the spring axle set-up and the 4X2 uses the over spring set up.... As far as making the truck look like a 4X4 just get a 2WD lift kit, if that is to expensive for you go with a 3" body lift, I haven't looked into them but I would think they(body lift), was fairly inexpensive...Bernd which setup do you have??
Also Bernd, or anyone else.... I have a quick question for you.....Would a shift kit in my truck 2000 4x4, 4.7...help at all with performance, or can I even get one considering my truck is 4x4...sorry I'm not to mechanically inclined...thanks for any help you can give..
