Message: -2000 4x4 3.9L Dakota
-Building a K&N Homebrew intake out of PVC
-Applied several coats of high temp spray paint
Questions:
Will PVC melt, crack, or break under the hood due to high heat?
How hot does it get under tho hood of a 2000 4x4 3.9 Dakota?

Message: PVC may melt. Use ABS then you won't have to worry about it.

Message: I don't know about the 3.9L's, but I used pvc on my 4.7L and no problems. I did paint it though.
It has seen 80-85 degree F so I'm not too worried

Message: This weekend, in the mountains of San Diego it got over 120 degrees under my hood...this will melt PVC and deform ABS. Thats why I payed the extra bucks and got a 360AirIntakes. They use aluminum covered with a chrome-like anodize and a ceramic inside to reduce heat. It works awesome.

Message: I have had a PVC home brew for ALONG time now, never had any problem what so ever.
Oh btw, I painted mine with 56 cent can of black spry paint.
You can see a little of my intake in my profile.

Message: Both PVC and ABS will melt. It would have to get very hot. To hot to touch.
