I am quite dissatisfied w/ my 3.55 gearing in my 4.7 QC auto, I tow and live in a mountainous area. I am going to make the switch to 3.92 gearing, but first, for those who have made this switch, were you satisfied and what is your rpm level at 60mph with overdrive OFF and your tire size. Right now with my overdrive off @60mph with a tire diameter of 31.6, it's about 2300 or so rpm. For those who tow, this is not enough to harness any power for those steep climbs. 3rd gear is supposively the towing gear, but more like 2nd gear for me, hence, the need to switch to 3.92 gearing. I would be most appreciative for any input on my dillema. Thanks.

Supposively, huh? Is that like electronical? ; ) Just kiddin'. Couldn't resist. ; )

I have the 3.92 in my 4.7 QC auto w/31" tires as well. At 60mph with O/D off, it runs pretty high. I can't remember the exact numbers, somewhere in the 2500 to 2700rpm range I think, but I think 3.92's will work just great for your towing quad cab.

The math says if you are at 2300 with the 3.55 you will be at 2540 at the same speed with a 3.92. With a 4.10 you'll be running 2656 rpm.
