Subject: rear axle ratios IP: Logged
Message: Please excuse my ignorance but I need a little help with selecting the right vechicle. Now I know this is a dakota site but my question is based on the durango (same engine). The SLT+ w/ 5.9l V8 has a 3.55 ratio and the R/T 5.9l has a 3.92 ratio.
What is the advantage of either ratio?

Message: Higher numerical ratio has better take off but tachs higher RPM at highway speeds.
The ratios you posted arent SLT or R/T spacific all though Dodge did put 3.92's in most R/T's.
You can get any ratio in any truck from Dodge, just ask em.
It is a good idea to get lower (numerically higher) gears in heavier or mostly racing vehicles.
Hope this helped, Scott
