Subject: Electric fan IP: Logged
Message: I hear some of you guys talking about the instalation of an electric fan. What benefits do you get from an electric fan? Is the installation something I could tackle in my driveway with basic hand tools? I should metion that my mechanical skills are limited.

Message: yea theres benefits your A\C will work better the fan will cool the condensor better lowering the head pressure in the A\C system, giving you a better working A\C. while your at it install a fan cycle control switch to cycle the fan on and off according to ambient air temp. that will sure make you go faster! hell It will give you 20-30HP. I wouldnt be suprised if you have a K&N air filter, I bet you do dont you? come on now you dont have to lie to kick it.

Message: I dont know about the rest of you, but this mp punky doesnt sound like to much of a Dakota fan. By the way, thanks Bernd and my Dakota is a 93 4x4 w/318,a/c,c/c.
p.s.-mp punky, no, as a matter of fact I dont have a K&N filter. I bought the truck about 7 months ago and I am saving all I can for an Airaid w/K&N!!

Message: Oh come on people dont get mad! its only my opinion, by the way I do have to sweep my stall I find it rather degrading but if I dont nobody else will and the place of business is to money hungry to shell out for a shop boy. and if you guys have to know I have a 99 dodge dakota RT jet black bone stock just the way mopar made it, no chips k&n's no exhaust bone stock the way I bought it the way I fell in love with it, I feel you cant improve on perfection.

The R/T's are far from perfect. If they were, they'd be running 13's from the factory. ;)
In all seriousness though, the R/T's can benefit from the same mods as the rest of the Dakota's...TB, Headers, Intake, Exhaust, etc. There's nothing really special about the R/T engine either...same one that's in the Durango, Jeep, and Ram (same cam, heads, intake, TB, etc.).

Message: You will benifit buy adding a few horsepower to your truck. But i like the fan attached to the engine. I think its cool. Get a flex fan they look cool and sound awsome and increase hp.

Message: Yeah Bob. I think Mr Phunkie would love a completely stock mustang. I just out ran my son's PERFECT stock R/T with my modified 5.2, neither of which is very perfect or high tech.
The R/T's are so imperfect that Dodge offered to buy them back in '99.

Message: I have a 98 Dak V6 4X4 and I want to add an electric fan to my list of mod's. Anyone know part numbers so I can just go on down to Pep Boys or whatever and pick up a kit? Preferrably a Flex fan brand.

Message: I am not sure of the technical reasons or exactly what it does but my truck came with two fans.It looks like a smaller electric fan ahead of reg fan.The weather is just getting warm enough so I can see what I bought last fall!

Message: Well, in reference to wayne's answer, yes the R/T's in 98 and 99 were majorly riddled with problems. I gave mine back to chrysler and bought a mustang cobra. the dealer was a little miffed..... Anyway, I bought the largest electric you could buy at the time with dual fans and I could not get the truck to cool down. I ended up blowing two hoses and maybe even damaging the engine so I went back to the standard fan. It always bugged me that when dak's get hot, that fan clutch locks up and kills power...I live in Texas so they are always hot in Traffic. So, as an experiment, I installed a flex fan on my dad's 94 CC 5.2L. It runs the same temp but when it is hot, it does not lose power. the only problem is that the fan whines alot....I mean ALOT. some people ask if it has a supercharger but to those who know...the answer is nope. On the older trucks (2000's have a different radiator/grill setup) there is just not enough room to get the Black magic fan in that is used on full size chevy's. I was going to consider using a combo of dual twin fans in a push/pull arangement but found that there was not enough room. Also, the temperature switch systems to turn the fan on and off are not of the highest quality either. that is the primary reason I blew two hoses off.
My new QC 5.9 has the regular fan and an auxilary electric that runs when the AC is on and I guess when the truck really gets warm. this is a much better/different setup. Personally, I would find ways to keep the stock fan/clutch and get more power out of the engine and try to find an internal way of getting it to run cooler like a 180 thermostat. This might prevent the engine bay from getting so warm and negate the clutch locking up so much. Just a thought.
