You can...but don't go more than 2.5" on the Inlet of the muffler and no more than 2.25" on the dual outlets.
(I have a '97 3.9L with a dual exhaust system...I ran a 2.5" IN / 2.5" Dual Out and lost some bottom end power...the supercharger gave that back to me though.) ;)

Message: What about the exhaust system at the bottom of the dakota section on this page? The 15735 system number for $566.78?

Message: Well if you got the money to spend go for it. Personally I think the 3.5" tips are too big but that's just me. If you are considering a stainless system have you looked at these guys: www.mbrp.com Click on automotive products and you should see a Dakota to click on. They quoted me $469 on the phone, she said it normally went for $580 I think but that she could give me a break.

Message: Well isn't the trade off if you have the club cab you have a shorter bed and if you have the standard cab you have a longer bed? Wouldn't the main pipe coming from behind the cat be the same length either way? If not all a shop would have to do it add or remove some material in that main pipe. Hopefully they have stainless material if they are adding. But if would be right after the cat so I don't see it being a big deal.

Message: The last generations offered long bed configurations. I've never seen or heard of a 3rd gen. long bed. If they're available, then I apologize for my last post.
