Message: I also notched mine so the rubber gasket would seat better. Like you say, coils to the block, Pointy end outwards.
Didn't drill the whole though, also, didn't remove the resevoir either, the fan and clutch slips right out on the 4.7.

Message: Ok, so I feel dumb. I went to the local hardware store to buy a 1 7/16 wrench, $64!! F&%K That!! So I found a Crescent wrench for 9.99 that went as big..hehe
Anyways I turned the big silver bolt between the fan and the pulley. It just spins the pulley and the fan. Is this right, or am I loosening it the wrong way? Facing the windshield I am turning the wrench to the left, like you would do with any...
Please help me!! Its cold working outside and Im dumbfounded. Thank you

Message: Like crusty said they are all really cheap mods. I built and or installed everything you see there.
Cost breakdown in Cnd$
Ported TB ---------------------------$5
IAT adjuster ------------------------$55
Flowmaster cat back -----------$300
TPS mod ----------------------------free
4" cold air----------------------------$120
Removed third cat-----------------$80
Electric fan convertion-----------$45
HO cams-----------------------------$150 for both
These are prices after employee discounts. Also the cat back, IAT adjuster and thermostatic fan switch is off of my '97.
Right now I am running a corrected 14.55 in the quarter, on winter tires and I haven't put in the cams yet. That is on a stock PCM as well. Trust me if I could afford a turbo for this bad boy it would be on there. You can do alot from tuning a vehicle as well.

Message: I hate to sound dumb, but how would I tell if I have an electric fan in addition to an electric one? The shroud I have covers a lot... I can see the belt leading to the pulley which turns the regular fan... Hm.
Please let me know! I'm interested in recovering a few HP if possible. Also, if I wanted to convert to an electric-only fan system, how much $$$ would something like this cost at a shop???
Thanks,
jim

I was looking tru the summit catalog for a thermostat switch for the electric fan. I fond one from painless perf. products 185 deg. on /170 off,or 200 on/185 off $59.69 each. Also Perma-Cool wiring kit, includes 170 deg. thermal sensor $17.95 or electric fan install kit with thermal switch $39.95 and a 30 amp relay switch for veh. with air for $7.50. I am starting to get confused on what i realy need, can you tell me what you used or would recommend .

Message: Hey Dudes:
I found it with a google search at
http://www.speedunlimited.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=F21-31147&sid=7rv0Ka0VSJl72ps
It list for 28.99.adjustable from 180 to 240 degrees . But i also found a neat little CSI digital programmable temp gauge from summit that lets you turn it on at any temp you want for $79.95,looks cool and i would know the exact temp. Now what to do ? Anyone used any of these products let me know. Decessions , Decessions. so i can't spell , close enough.

Message: 2 questions. One, I know I have the electric fan....if I remove the clutch fan (or disable it) how will it handle the heat? I'm in Va and it usually doesn't get above about 95 in the summer. Two, exactly what does removing the 3rd cat do for you? Upsides and downsides. Thanks!

Message: Well it remains to be seen in summer use , thats why i want a gauge, but you can always put it back on. Removing the third cat makes for a nice sound and has got to let your exhaust flow free. also should inprove mpg. I just did it so have not checked mpg yet . But if you have ever had one of them apart you would have to wonder how anything gets tru at all . did it to my old S10 with nice results. Might void your warrenty thou.

Message: works in 95 degree so cal heat....been in the
90's for about a week now. I was doing some
erinds around town yesturday and after
stopping and starting the motor back up, the
temp gauge only went slightly above the
middle, but the fan instantly kicked in and was
back to below normal in seconds. while the
car is moving, even in 95 degree weather, the
temp guage stays well below normal (if you
run the 180 stat) I have yet to use my AC, I
never do, unless my girlfriends with me "its
too hot...turn on the AC you cheap b@stard"
I doubt I will be putting the fan back on this
summer, unless I decide to drive to Vegas
where it will probably be like 115degrees. I
think the homebrew ABS/PVC40 intake I just
made helps it stay way cooler, I can grab the
pipe, and its not even as hot as the stock
airhat got.

Message: Okay... perhaps a dumb question... since I have installed the 160 degree thermostat, my temp hasnt gone above 160 whether sitting at idle for 10 minutes, racing at the track, racing from stop light to stop light.... no matter what... since obviously my engine isnt requiring air flow in order to keep cool... how necessary would a fan at all be? Maybe a response would be that the fan blows the hot air out of the engine compartment, but it doesnt really seem that strong to me, and with the "plastic thingy" out from underneath my radiator... wouldnt that cause enough itself ? Just a thought... dont flame me... I'm tired and buzzin

Message: I just received my Permacool fan wiring kit from Jegs today. This appears to be a really nice unit. Very thick wiring, it has the AC relay wire as well as the second fan wire. I'm only using this to turn on the stock electric fan a little earlier. But its nice to know if i have to get a bigger elec. fan I'll be all set on the wiring. It came with everything you need including mounting hardware and all the wire crimps and terminals you need.
Only question is what color is the positive wire coming out of the stock fan? I know Dodge would never think of making it RED. It probably purple with yellow pinstripes and mauve swirls or some sh!t
