Subject: Stoopid speed limiter! IP: Logged
Message: I have a '01 QC 2wd SLT w/4.7L.
Does ANYONE know of an aftermarket chip or ECM that will raise my speed limiter?
Without a doubt?
Who makes it?
Web address?
I'm tired of this thing shutting down at 98 mph!!
I want it gone!!!
I might have the chance to run the Dak at the Myrtle Beach speedway this summer and I want to have a good time.
I ran the truck at Lowe's in Charlotte in November and that damn thing kept on kicking on and off thru the straightaways! POS! Pissed me off!

Message: Get some speed rated tires before you remove the limiter. You don't want your H tires blowing up on the speedway going over 100mph.

Message: Stock tires are bald and gone. I do a lot of highway driving for my job - I've put 25k miles on since June, 2001. Stock tires bye-bye!
Now, back to my speed limiter . . . how do I get rid of it or raise it?

Message: Just heard back from Kenne Bell about the chip they offer. If you have a limiter at 112 MPH it can be raised to 135 MPH, if your is like mine and cuts out at 98 MPH your hosed. I replied to find out why, but it's probably some kind of legislative B.S. The chip will give you 10 RWHP for 350 bucks.

Message: I thought speed limiter where due to tire ratings. You know they don't want to get sued by some moron going 140mph on stock tires that are only rated for 100mph. This way, the blame goes to the tire company not Dodge for letting customers go 140mph on the tires supplied by Dodge. We just need Dodge to start putting Z rated tires on the new Trucks, so there wouldn't be a need for a limiter. Unless it's has to with something else, gas consumption, unsafe speed to model, etc.

Message: You guys may want to reconsider getting around the limiter on the club or quad cab automatics. I was told by a chrysler engineer that the reason it is shut down at 98 is that speeds higher that this caused the transmission to wear out during durability testing. Have not seen it or heard other than that but you may want to keep this in mind this guy has never sent me down the wrong path.

Message: Heard back from Kenne Bell. They are saying that a driveline vibration exists in the trucks that prevent them from altering the top end limiters if they are the 98 MPH limiter. If anyone would like to see this email, contact me and I'll forward you a copy.

Message: So you telling me that the people with 98mph limiters have poorly made trannys that will vibrate apart if ran faster than 98mph? I'm glad I got the 115-117 limiter :)
