Subject: Will a 2.2 FWD Fit in a Dakota? IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a 1987 Dakota and it is starting to knock. The motor has been replaced before. The last owner said it is out of a FWD (It has a front oil sump). Has anyone know if this is true? Is their any other motors that could possible bolt up to the manual transmission?
Thank You, Daniel

Message: I used the motor from a 86 dodge lancer turbo FWD. If I remember corectly, the crank is specific to the truck in that it has a larger pilot bushing in the clutch end of the crank. You could probabbly have any mechine shop thet works with cranks, bore out the hole and insert a bushing. The FWD block i used also needed 2 of the bosses on the block drilled and taped to accept the dakotas motor mounts.
Otherwise the blocks and internal should all be the same.
Hope this helps....
