Subject: 5.9 QC/RT PCM ? IP: Logged
Message: I have a 2001 5.9L Auto QC. I am thinking about installing a 2000 R/T PCM (found a used one for $95).
Are these PCMs compatible/inter changable? Should I see some performance increase?
My stock PCM displays an error code that will not clear. The Dealer can't figure out the cause of the error code and is suggesting that some of my prior modifications may have damaged my stock PCM.
I am going to try another PCM to see if the code cleared and was thinking that the R/T PCM might also provide more performance.
Thanks for the input.

Message: You will get a check engine light because the vin will not match the used PCM.

Message: CW - Thanks for the reply.
Can the VIN problem be corrected by the Dealer? (Seems like I recall seeing that in another post somewhere)
Also do you know if there are any performance "incompatibilities" that can be expected between the 2000 and 2001 year model PCM?
Thanks

Message: I couldn't tell you for sure on either question. I have never tried putting in a computer from the wrong year of truck nor have I tried to program a different vin after one has been programed in there. I think the vin can be changed though.
