Toyota makes a good product - there's no disputing that. I've owned a bunch of Toyotas over the years, and they break down just like any other vehicle on the road. You said this is your first Toyota..... how many miles are on it? Can you keep up with a 4.7 Dakota? If you continually raced it - how long would it last?

You are missing a very important part of the story in your report about Toyotas vs Dodges..... the people who buy them. Bland drivers drive bland vehicles. Generally speaking, the guy that buys a Toyota truck isn't looking for any sort of performance and will drive it easier because it's purely utility/transportation. The easier you drive something the longer it will last. Where the guy that buys an R/T will definately hammer it occasionally.... different driver type all together.

The next time you are tooling down the road and some guy is in the fast lane and slowing everybody down..... look to see what make of vehicle it is! Chances are pretty slim that it will be a Dakota!

I love when other vehicle makes search the internet and find posts about their vehicle on this site and must tell us how good it is like it's going to somehow change our minds. I blame Mark's good search engine placement for these things poping up every so often.

It doesn't matter what kind of truck you buy, because in the long run they all have advantages and disadvantages. If you drive it hard, it will break earlier and more often. If you drive it like Grandma Jenkins, it'll last forever (relatively speaking). Brand doesn't make two sh!ts worth of difference overall EXCEPT to the person that's driving it.

The reason the Japs beat or ASS on everthing is due to strict quality control and rigid specifications. They demand high quality control from the suppliers and they check 100% of the vechiles before they leave the factory. We on the other hand check ever 10th or evry 100th vechile off the line. The Japanese desing a part for reliability and then leave it alone. We design a part for reliability then the bean counter's come along and keep cheaping the design until we have massive failures right out side the warranty window or have a huge recalls. Then we end up with a mid-model redssign of the part to return it to the origanl design that the enginier had specified!!! I see this every day and it is so frustrateing!!!! If it is worth doing it is worth doing right the first time. It always cost more to do it twice the it does to do it once!!!!
