I found a 4 barrel intake manifold for a 3.9 in a junkyard last weekend. There was no carb on it. I wanted to know will the computer still work on my 87 dakota if I bolt it on with a Holley carb ? I need to know if the wires that run to the stock carb need to be hooked up for the ignition to work.

I would say yes that the cokmputer will still run fine if you change it. Here are the part #'s listed in my 3.9 preformance book for the 87-91 dakota. The number on the second line that is 7 digits long is the part # to order direct from your dealership

Holley P4781 - 850 cfm 4Bbl
P4348232 Mechanical Secondaries,
double accelerator pumps

Holley R1850 - 600 cfm 4Bbl
P4349227 Vacuum secondary

Holley R3310 - 750 cfm 4Bbl
P4349228 Vacuum Secondary

Holley R3418 - 855 cfm 4Bbl
P5249808 Vacuum Secondary

my personal recomendation would be the 600 cfm carb, will cost less and give you more than enough preformance.

Don't be surprised if your truck runs like a sack. With no other mods you may drown your engine. Even some v8's are known to become boggy because of the 4 barrel. It's especially common with some RT's. Many complain they lose lots of bottom end.

Then again it may perk up a little.

Good luck.
