Message: First post here, good board. I'm going to put on a air intake on my 02 QC 4.7L 4x4. Any suggestions on pricing and what brand to put in? Thanks in advance.

Message: Go with the Z tube by intense performance. Looks cool and it's supposed to be about the best and it costs about $250. Check out speedteaks.net

Message: I went with the 360airintakez tube for the 4.7. Almost the same thing, but it's two pieces of material. Which in all reality (a little seem where it meets) isn't going to make that much difference.
Costs $160 that includes shipping. Sounds awesome when you hit the gas!!! Haven't had a chance to take it back to the dyno yet, but it seems like i have alot better low end, and little better top end. Having trouble launching,,,just sit there and smoke'm up! hahahahaaa
I would go with this intake over the Z-tube,,The Z-tube has slight appearance advantage w/it being just one piece. But with 2 pieces you can adjust it to fit in the tight area,,makes installation a breeze.

Message: I completed a home brew intake recently so I haven't had alot of experience with it but so far I think it great. Search for fresh air intake and you will be flooded with ideas. If I didn't do the homemade setup I would probably take a serious look at the 360airintakez tube. Martellbros.com have treated me OK for acc. purchases if you decide on the DIY.

Message: Looking at the pictures of the eBay item, the filter is too close to the exhaust manifold. He needs to move it towards the front to be able to pull cooler air from next to the radiator.

Message: I've got the Quick D, which is basically the big K&N cone on a mandrel bent stainless steel tube which connects to my stock TB hat. I'm happy with it, but I can see how it could have been a bit longer to bring the filter closer to the front of the truck. $150 US.

Message: I did get the Ebay intake I mentioned before. I also removed the rubber cover next to the radiator to allow more air flow from the front of the vehicle. Also, cut a piece of sheet metal and mounted it between the filter and exhaust manifold. THere should now be minimal hot air from the engine, exhaust manifold and radiator reaching the filter. I did see the increase of 3 mpg with the intake even before the other mods but what the heck, anything helps. Have driven it in the rain and filter has not got wet so far.
Too each his own. THat's the best thing about messing with these trucks.
