Message: I have a 3.9 L Dakota 4 x 4 with 108xxx mi. When you start it, sometimes it pops, backfires and generally runs rough. If I turn the truck off, wait a minute or so, and start it again, it may run rough or may run just fine. Eventually, if I keep turning it off, waiting, and re-starting, it will run normally. I tried several bottles of HEET to no avail. I checked the spark plugs, and they looked normal.
Anybody got any ideas?

What year first off.
It could be anything from a small vacuum leak to a bad sensor (more than likely MAP). Are you tripping any codes?

Message: have a dealer check your codes, i had a ranger that did that and it ended up being the EGR valve....they replaced it and it ran fine....

Depending on the year...the late '95 - Current Magnum Engines don't use an EGR anymore.

Message:
An alternator "whining" is most commonly one of three things:
(1) Overcharging or Low Battery
(2) Bad Brushes in the alternator (causing an excessive load on the alternator)
(3) "Noisey" Alternator - Replace it to get rid of the noise.

Message: all i have to do is convience Dodge to replace it for me. last week they replaced the battery because it failed the load test. two dealerships say this is normal noise and one said if it got worse they would replace the alternator.
