Message: well it is kinda true, you have put ALOT of money into these dakotas to make them fast. (11,12,13sec quarter miles) sc and nitrous, its expensive. you can get a new camaro SS that runs 13's almost stock. you can get an old chevelle that runs 11's stock. or you could get a buick grand national or buick regal t-type that runs 11's with only minor mods. like dave said there isnt many mods for dakotas. but ive seen sc and nitrous dakotas that only run 13's, what more can they make for us?. what the hell, when are we gonna be runnin 8's and 9's, ford lighnings run 13's easily, and 454ss's run 13's easily. IM TIRED OF SPENDING MY HARD EARNED MONEY ON MODS FOR MY DAKOTA KNOWING THAT ITS NEVER GONNA RUN BETTER THAN A 13! WHAT THE HELL WHY DONT THESE COMPANIES HELP US OUT AND GIVE US SOME QUALITY MODS THAT GIVE US ACTUALL POWER TO TAKE TO THE TRACK OR THE STREET!
take the ford lighning and the R/T. lighning comes sc. lets say you sc the R/T. ford is still gonna be faster. lets say you got a sc R/T and a lighning. you put a exaust and an itake on both, the lighning is still gonna be faster. so now you got the lighning sc, exaust, intake and you got your R/T sc, exaust, and intake, next you put a throttle body on the R/T only and a 100 shot of nitrous on the R/T only. drive the fukkin things to the track and the R/T will barely keep up. WTF i love dakotas but when the hell are we ever gonna dominate the track?
i in no way intended to piss of dakota drivers im just stating the truth and im pretty pissed off about it

Message: Justin.... Relax, take a deep breath and step away from the keyboard. I understand your frustration, but you have some of the facts turned around a bit. It's a matter of the right plan, parts and execution ($$$$$) hehehe. If you are just looking for a quick timeslip, then ANY truck is the wrong way to go about it. You can in fact make an R/T go as fast or faster than a Lightning if you put the right SC or mods on it. Just because a part is labeled as a supercharger doesn't mean that it's gonna make it that fast. Some parts/systems definately work better than others. I think the frustration is in picking the correct parts. Spending money doesn't necessarily make them go faster. A long list of mods doesn't either. You have to have the correct mods to make it happen.
As far as dominating at the track? That will NEVER happen. NOTHING dominates at the track. If you had a Lightning... the Camaros, TAs, Mustangs and every other kind of vehicle (including some Dakotas) will still go faster. THERE IS ALWAYS SOMEBODY FASTER. It's always been that way and it always will be. If you like your truck.... enjoy it for what it is. I mod my truck for the enjoyment of it. It's more of a soothing hobby for me. How fast it ends up doesn't really mean that much to me. I just enjoy the challenge of making it more efficient and quicker despite the lack of "packaged" mods.

third: don't expect musclecar performance from your truck because this is why it's called a truck not a musclecar... and if you beat on your classic car you should be shot because a musclecar is priceless and many that are in factory condition are worth ALOT of money, you'd be stupid to beat on it especially if it has the factory engine.....

Message: The new camaro SS thing doesn't hold water compared value wise to a Dakota. If you dumped the price difference between a new stripped out RC, 4.7 5-speed, 3.92/LS Dakota and new SS the Dakota will beat the SS in a straight line. There was never a showroom stock chevelle that could touch 11's let alone 12's. And the ones that come close would actually cost you more then a new Dakota, and be no where near as smooth running, stopping, turning, not to mention the utility the truck gives you. Trucks are the musclecars of the 2000's, not even the soon to be discontinued Camaros and Firebirds really fit the bill. They can only be ordered a few specific ways, the mustang is a little better for individuality but there are so many out there. Trucks have so many options and none fits the musclecar thing as well as a dakota (big engine, small package). The Lightning w/o the supercharger is nother, they already tried that and a R/T will smoke a older non-supercharged L. If Dodge put together a quality supercharger and intercooler (with the rest of the motor built specifically for it) like the L has, the Dakota would smoke it with it's light weight and bigger motor. If you want a true bang for the buck, all around sports car the new Subie WRX can't be beat, they are $22-27,000 and have a bunch of parts out already. The pretty much stock ones are already starting to dominate the SCCA club here, thier times with only autocross tires are better then some pretty seriously modified veteran autocross cars (like vetts, 240and 280z's, mustangs, neons ACRs, etc.). My brother has one and it also is great for the Montana winters and hauling 3 kids to school, something my Dakota sucks at (at least I can put an elk in my Dakota!)

Message: I love it when these lesser intelligent, dare I say stupid people come to this webpage. I bought my Dak b/c of everything but the performance, yes it had a V8 and a 5spd but after I owned it did I find out about it's potential. Look at Duner and Big Bird. Show me a car that can do that stock and costs less then $20,000 and can haul a four wheeler or dirt bike. Right now Duner can beat a new 996 Porsche, given the quality isnt there or everything that goes along with owning a Porsche. But in the end we Dakota owners have a little more thickness in our wallets, and we are happy driving what we do. Besides a Camaro or Mustang, unless it is vintage why buy one? Every body has one, and they wear out very quickly. No offense, Id rather own a Dak than a Camaro/Mustang. I like my Dak and thats all she wrote.

Message: Ok being a dakota owner i hafta put my 2 cents in...first of all i do own a 2001 Trans Am WS6 and would own it over any new dakota anyday. Why you ask? There are many reasons, value, performance, style, prestige, and last but not least chicks dig them :-).
I know the new camaro's and T/A's cost around 30k new (i paid 29k), but my new dakota also cost around 26k new. I would pay 3k more for almost 100 more horsepower and loads of more torque. (2002 t/a ram air-325hp/around 350 ft-lb torque) In order to get my dakota with a 4.7L to have that much power i would have to spend over 3 grand. An STOCK R/T doesnt even compare to a T/A..look at the numbers and do the research, you will see. (2001 T/A 0-60mph in 5.4 sec)
Another thing, why do alot of people love straight line racing so much. That is the most boring type of racing there is. Going around a tight curve at a high rate of speed and sticking to the road is my idea of fun, yeah goin 130 down a straight away is fun too but id rather race through curves.
A camaro or t/a holds a higher value than the dakota. 10 years down the road most of you would sell your dak's for under 10k. A camaro or t/a would be worth twice as much. Pay a lil more now, and get more out of it down the road. Plus dakotas arent considered "collectors cars"
I love the looks of my dakota but i really love the looks of the ram air scoops on the new camaros, t/a's. They are much more "intimidating" than the dakota. I also like the stances of the cars much better.
How many girls out there would turn down an SS or T/A to ride in a dakota? Not many.
I do love my dakota very much and i dont mean to diss any dakota owners. I dont think we should even be comparing a dakota to a camaro or a trans am. They are totally different in almost every aspect an shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence.well thats my 2 cents, i could go on but thats long enough..comments are welcome :-)
