ok I am still learning about cars, they are a big transition from racing snowmobiles. The question I have is that the bottom of my throttle body is somewhat dirty, almost looks like carbon, what should I use to clean it? Is it normal for it to get dirty in the throttle body and in the intake manifold? It just looks pretty dark, I run a bolt on filter to the airhat and it seems to be keeping things clean I think.

Sounds like you have an intake plennum gasket leak. Check to see if the black stuff at the bottom of the intake manifold is oil, if it is you have this leak. This can cause detonation and oil consumption. Mine cost about 500 dollars to have it fixed at the dealer, but if you are still under warranty it will be covered.

RTJOHN, Remember, you also have a breather tube that sucks oil laden air from your drivers side valve cover and into the airhat. You can get a thin black sooty deposit on your TB and inside your intake from this, over time. This is normal and nothing to worry about. However, on low mileage vehicles or ones that have a heavy or oily deposit, then thats another matter.
The reason this is plumbed into your airhat is that on deceleration, this tube sucks air into the crankcase thru the valve cover, this way it is sucking filtered thru the air hat.You can avoid this by getting one of those push-in K&N filter breathers that go into the valve cover and deleating the hose to your airhat.Just make sure you plug up the little nipple that sticks out of the back of the air hat!
