Subject: Check out my install loc. for my IAT adj IP: Logged
Message: I don't know if anyone has tried this or not, since I haven't been on the board all that long, but I was working on installing my IAT adjuster today (before I got rained out! unfortunately my garage isn't big enough for all of my toys :( ) and I decided to install it in the center console. I have the bucket seats, so it has the high console. I was originally going to install it way down in the bottom, and while I was watching the rain, this hit me! It fits perfectly! I had to put some plastic "shims" behind it, since it wasn't quite deep enough to sit flush, but that was too easy. It just fits by pressure, no gluing, screwing, etc., just sits right in there. Anybody else tried this? I don't have enough wire to run out to the engine bay, so I'm gonna have to pick up some cable tomorrow, but I believe this is where I'm gonna leave it. Getting the console out was a snap, no problems at all.
Here's some pics of where I put it:

Message: not at all. It's sold by one of the sponsors of this site, SpeedTweaks (check the top for a banner). It "adjusts" the Incoming Air Temp. Basically, it's this little box (as seen in the pictures) that goes inline of your IAT sensor and either sends a new, "fake" signal to your computer telling it that it's either colder or hotter outside than it really is (hence the dial) or the stock sensor, this is done with the switch. Why do this? It tricks the computer into turning the timing up or down beyond what it would under normal circumstances. A large portion of the computer's decision on timing is based on the temperature of the incoming air, so this is an easy way to do it. Racers have done this for quite a while using a resistor, with pre-selected value, inserted into the IAT sensor harness in place of the sensor. This is just a very easy way of doing that from inside the cab, and with no tools whatsoever, and almost infinately adjustable. It's as adjustable as you can possibly use anyway. Hope this helps.

Message: That's one of the places that the IAT adjuster would work the best,Scotty. Gives the most gains at temps above 70 degrees.

Message: exactly, most people use it to make the truck think that it's cooler outside than it actually is. The most gains are seen above 70, or so I'm told, haven't actually used this yet, but I've used the resistor trick for a long time, which is what this is basically. Just set the dial for around 20 degrees lower than it is outside, and you're set. I'd almost say it's a have to have for Hawaii. It can probably take more if you run premium grade fuel.

Message: Hey Bakerman, thats a sweet idea to put the sensor there. I was goin to do the same to my dakota but my IAT wire isnt long enough to reach the center console. Did you lengthen yours?

Message: Neil: Thanks! :)
kicker01: Yeah, my wires were short too. You can't mount it that far back in the console with the wires it came with, close, but no cigar. I had to extend them about 3' or so. Found some 18/4 stranded in the garage that worked well. Wrapped it in electrical tape really tight, and VIOLA!
On a related note, this console is super easy to take out and the underdash area of this thing is super easy to work with.
