Subject: 180 TStat and PCM rumor IP: Logged
Message: A friend of mine was telling me it was stupid to run a lower temperature t-stat (180) because it causes your PCM to inject more fuel to bring the temp up. I have only noticed an increase in mileage not a decrease, but I also did 3" catback flowmaster exhaust, 3923's, and removed the clutch fan at the same time. I have defineately noticed a rotten egg smell that is associated with it burning rich. Is there any truth to this and is there anything to worry about or change to improve this?

Message: Yeah, sounds like your cat. Running rich will make an engine run colder, not hotter. I have no problems with my 180 t-stat.

Message: Cats get blamed for everything. If it is stinking
then you are rich or using high sulfur fuel.
I would like to see a perf test with just the stock thermostat and a 180 as the only mods. The only thing the 180 should really help is pinging, used to argue with guys on the 4 cyl. over this and a properly setup non modified system will run better with the stock thermostat.
Chrysler cats, unless rattling and broken, very seldom fail. Once in a rare while you might get a plugged on.

Message: Kewl thanx Jeff. I never thought about the sulphur content in the fuel. With the better flow of the exhaust I can maybe now smell it where as before I might not have noticed.
