yeah i got a 99 ext cab 5.2 dakota and ill be getting income tax in about a month and would like to make my truck a bit quicker. it already has a custom 2.5 in flowmaster dual exhaust with no cat and stock exhaust manifolds. im looking for something up to about 500 dollars. what could i get toi make the most horsepower for my buck. i will be doing the work myself.

it if were me, Superchips tuner and a set of the 1.7:1 rocker arms for the Viper v10. they bolt right in.

Maybe a set of those rocker arms for the Viper V10 and some headers. If you are increasing the amount of air going in, it only seems reasonable to help the air get out faster.

will these rockers raise my hp or torque at all. and is this the only thing i have to buy or will i also need to buy new pushrods to match. will it affect my gas milage at all. if it raises my hp enough, im not really worried about gas but if its like a 5 mpg diff, that might change my mind.

For the minimal HP gain 500$ is going to get you,
spend it on stuff like: performance brake pads (Hawk)
and good shocks absorbers (KYB's etc).
500$ spent on these components will be noticed and
you will enjoy a better handling / braking truck.

I do agree that $500 wont buy a 12 second truck, but it can definitely help the go pedal and the fun factor. Viper Rockers, Superchips, and maybe a drop in air filter (amsoil, K&N, etc) will probably add 30-40 hp at the wheels.
If you can squeeze in a shift kit, I think you will be VERY pleased. Before you jump on this, you might want to make sure the shift kit can work with a Superchips in a 46re tranny. I know the 545RFE is not supposed to use these in conjunction. (Someone help me out here!) Also, shift kits can be a bit tricky to install on your transmission, but if you like to wrench and enjoy a challenge, go for it.

Synthetic lubricants & K&N filter, perhaps 5 HP max.
So thats 30-35 HP from rockers arms / chip? Doesn't sound accurate.

looks like it's a direct bolt in. maybe a little time for the PCM to adjust to the increased valve lift.
as for the Superchips, some guys have posted an MPG gain using the 87 octane program. but, you'll have to try to keep your foot out of it.

Andrew..........Speed costs bucks. $500 bucks doesn't buy a lot of power. I would go with the Viper rockers and the chip. Easy install and the most your pretty much going to get out of $500 or so bucks. Before going with more then these 2 things, do the brakes next. If you can't stop, it can get pretty scary.

I forgot to mention autolite 3923 plugs, and all synthetics with a general tune-up would add quite a bit over it's current condition.

id use the 500 dollars for a cia preferably k&n then id get a bigger differential for the rear end not too much bigger and a shift kit.
and if possible the viper rockers
